Does anyone here that's veg*an hate beans? If so how do you get your daily protein without eating all soy? Soy has lots of protein and nuts but what else can help?

Why all the bean hate, lately? It seems everyone I know and almost everyone online that I encounter hates beans. Beans rock! There I said it!

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful... but... I love beans. :p

so you're excluding nuts right? op isnt too clear
im assuming u are cuz nuts woulda been orison's answer. :p

find tempeh and seitan, they're kinda like tofu's. they're actually more rich in protein than soybeans.

I like nuts, I was just givng you guys examples of what I already know has protein in it. Like soy, nuts, and now rice. Lol

I like some beans like lentils and bushes baked beans because they are incased in sugar but I'm not a big fan of black beans or any bean with a hard shell. My mom used to make minestronie soup and take the beans and grind them togehter and include the bean purée in the broth. I could potentionally do that but it seems like a lot of work. Are there soft beans?

    :ack2:

stick to the brown rice and other whole grains.

    your only eating soya beans?
girl, what in the hell are you thinking?
ALL BEANS HAVE PROTEIN IN THEM!

most of the time i eat split peas because, they have a good amount of protein, are easy to cook and, they don't make me fart like most beans do.

there are: black beans, lima beans, pink beans, pinto beans, and so forth.
don't limit yourself to just one kind of bean!

if you are not going to eat meat for protein, then beside beans there are: dairy, eggs, nuts, and seeds for your protein needs.

if you like nuts, you can easily put them in salads and such. it might be a myth or not but 5 almonds has the DV of protein.

also check out quinoa. it can be used instead of rice or with rice and has lots of protein. my mom makes a delicious stir-fry dish, with quinoa, a little bit of brown rice, sliced bell peppers, walnuts, water chestnuts, onions, and some kind of sauce.

and check out tempeh and seitan, you can cook them and put bbq sauce on them, or put them in a sandwich, salad, pizza etc.

Not just soy right now, I'm eating rice and cheese for protein too. I'm doing calorie count and they produce these wicked pie charts of percentages of your carb, protein, and fat daily intake. My protein has been low every day this week. I started going veg nov 2 so I guess I'll just have to get create with the beans

    DAMN; YOUR PICKY!:)p

i'm no authority on this but, here it goes.
my suggestion is, you get yourself about 20 boyfriends and, suck 5 of them off a day.
i understand semen has a lot of protein in it.
with 20 boyfriends and, you only suck off 5 a day; that should give you a good amount of daily high quality protein.
no, i'm not bullshitting about this!
there is a book entitled 'unmentional cuisine,' that claims semen is quite high in protein.

now if semen does not appeal to you; my only other suggestion is, you get hold of a copy of 'the eat a bug cookbook,' and learn how to cook insects to meet your protein needs.

if none of this "lights your fire." my final suggestion is this... give up vegetarianism and take up canniblism.:svengo:
just never invite me to dinner. no way are you making me the main course!:willy_nilly:

There is no whole food that does not contain protein. There's protein in broccoli and celery, for heaven's sake.

What is with the American obsession with protein? Most people eat far more protein than is good for them. Did you know that overdosing on protein causes osteoporosis?

If your beans are too hard, you aren't cooking them well enough. Be sure to soak them overnight before cooking, or else use a pressure cooker. Any bean can be soft if properly cooked.

For the most part protein helps keep me fuller longer and is what I want since I lowered my calorie intake for the day in order to lose weight

And cooking them longer would help with the hard shell. Why do you have to soak beans?

    just so you know...
    Tempeh = fermented soybeans
    seitan = wheat gluten

You can also eat CORN, which is high in protein (amino acids actually) and when combined with beans offers a complete protein.

You can try eating FRESH beans like snow peas, string beans, etc.

Yes, cook your beans well. Some say adding bay leaf cuts down on the gas. Also serve with a bit of yogurt to do the same. You must soak them too otherwise they won't cook evenly. All beans & seeds must be hydrated before they can sprout.

Other things to eat with protein:
Bugs - as someone said. Popular in Asia.
    Mushrooms - very high protein!
Seeds - there are soooo many kinds and they're delicious! Many vegetarians add sunflower seeds to most things they eat.
Yeast - Nutritional yeast is an animal source, but great for protein and B-12 which doesn't exist in the plant world.
Wheat - Wheat has a lot of protein - it's a seed after all, and it's everywhere so really little reason to worry about protein.
Other Grains - Like oats, barley, quinoa or amaranth.
Certain veggies - are high in protein, but you'll have to look 'em up yourself... ;)
Sprouts - All sprouts have high levels of proteins.
Wheatgrass Juice - A complete protein, nearly 50%!

I am under the impression nutritional yeast is 100 percent completly non animal sourced.

Yeast is a fungus. Not a plant or animal.

    I stand corrected.

However the world of taxonomy has undergone radical changes recently and now both fungi and animal life are grouped together under the heading Opisthokonta. That means animals are more closely related to fungi than either is to plants.
