I was warned - they didn't pre-screen this movie for critics and the few who did somehow see it did not give very flattering reviews. Mostly they panned the script, a few didn't care for the outrageous costuming (which I found novel and which fit the outstanding scenery).

But, (except for the R rating and lots of blood splatter) this is one of those matinee movies that I have been watching all my life. Jason and the Argonauts, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad - movies that had fantastic special effects for the day and, as I recall not the best script.

This movie is about visuals and it was in 3-D which added to the great CGI vistas. The story is based on Greek antiquity - battles between Gods and Titans with mortal humans caught underfoot.

Theseus (Henry Cavill) is the hero of this story, a mortal with issues about his low birth. He has been tutored by an old man of his village (John Hurt) and excels in fighting.

The villain is King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) who wants to release the Titans to fight with the gods and acquire the Bow of Epirus, the most hi-tech weapon of the time.

Hyperion is pursuing the Oracle Phaedra (Freida Pinto) who can locate the magic bow for him.

So there's the set-up for ongoing battles, divine intervention, a really nasty villain and a really gorgeous hero whom you know will get the Virgin Oracle (one brief R-rated scene there).

Yeah, this movie has its faults. You can't take it seriously but it is an enjoyable visual experience - sort of a kid movie for ppl over 17.

You just can't beat a good Sword and Sorcery, with Greek God thrown in, action adventure. Especially on a wet afternoon. Now where's the popcorn bucket?

I'm yet unsure of what I liked better... I have to watch 300 again I guess because I haven't seen it as recently as Immortals. I'm leaning more towards 300 though, but the immortals also had a really cool surreal effect (but sometimes threw me off and didn't like the settings).
