I'm scared!!!

Today at 1:00 my time, (3:00 in Texas) I'm having a court hearing about my Dad's property. I have been made his guardian as he has paranoid delusions and is in the VA. I need to sell his house and dental property to pay his outstanding debts and lawyer bills. I have to ask the courts for permission as a part of the guardianship thing and I'M SCARED. Two and half hours to go. Do you think I should get dressed up like I was there, even though I'm doing it on the phone?

 

Ouch, you have his power of attorney? thats gotta be hard. I think you should get dressed up like your at the beach. That'll relieve some tension.

 

I wish I had power of attorney, that would be so much easier. They wouldn't let me because he was "incompetent", so that's why the courts are invovled.

But really, thanks, I freeking scared about it, but the hearing for guardianship couldn't have gone easier and it's the same judge, so I'm probably worrying for nothing. Nice to talk about it, though - it makes my sig other go all zombie like.

And my poor Dad is nuts, but feisty - he thinks Bush is personally messing with him. I sure wish Kerry would have won.

I seriously thought about both of your suggestions for dress (not that I can come up with the Zena warrior thing on a moments notice, sadly), but I think I would sound wierd on the phone!

Funny thing comtemplating that. Do you ever talk on the phone doing or wearing something that you wouldn't want them to see? Oh! I guess those pervs that call and breathe heavy are doing something.............

 

I do feel kind of weird when I'm in the shower and the phone rings and I wind up talking to my grandmother naked.

Try pretending you're a rockstar giving an interveiw. I do that pretty much everywhere I go and it works for me. Really bothers waitresses though. And cops.

 

Well, it's over. My petition to sell Dad's propery was approved. With the swearing in and the reading of the petition counted out, it took about 60 seconds. I am so relieved!!!!!!

That's great, that you were able to cheat your father out of all his hard-earned money - great job - BRAVO!!

 

The courts aren't getting a dime. Now, my lawyer on the other hand, Haha, but without him I wouldn't have known where to begin. Now, my next big hurdles are Social Security (I have to keep an accounting to prove I'm just not frittering away his money) and the dreaded IRS, which he didn't file last year and now this year is due. I don't think he made any money though so, hopefully, that's just a formality.
Yikes, there is so much to do.

 

I can't spend any on myself. How mean of you to assume I am. And, I have the courts looking over my shoulder. That's what this is all about. I hope you never have to do it.

 

Really?? You seem very interested in getting power of attorney - VERY INTERESTED - so are you going to buy a new boat???? Thieves usually run out and buy new boats as soon as they rip-off their parents.
