It's really happening. Im heading out. Just had to tell someone. I've been waiting for this for a long time but like many others Ive been caught up in the babylonian life but Im finaly spreading my wings. No more strings holding me here anymore. It feels so great.
So just today I got myself a big o'll confy backpack, a stove, sleepin bag, survival neccesities and whatnot and at this point Im just sayin bye to friends. Sure, Im scared shitless but I really have a feeling that this is what im suppose to be doing.
Im not exactly sure where Im goin, but as of now Id like to meet up with some rainbow fam down in Fl. I think if I met some others who are livin this kinda life it might boost my confidence. If not I'll just follow my gut and do what feels right. Im a shy guy but Im sure I'll meet other likeminded folk out there.
Anyway, just wanted to share my enthusiasm with all of you who feel the same. It makes me feel great to know that I'll be out there in the world experiencing real life. I hope to bump into some of you.
    Peace and Love!
    Nick

Hey Nick, what part of Nebraska are you from? Not that it matters, if you are taking off, but I have been living in Omaha for around 6-7 months now, and was curious as to where folks hang out around here.

    Nice, see ya there Vali

Hey hippylandscaper. Ya, Im in Omaha too. I don't know what kinda things you like but if your into live music, hit up some shows at the "pizza shop", goofyfoot lounge, or the waiting room on the right night. Got some friends in some bands and goin to the shows is always a good place to meet people. Im guessing you've already checked out the old market. If your into camping and hiking drop me a line and all tell you all my favorite spots.

I'm definatly into hiking and camping. That is one of my biggest complaints about Nebraska. All the cool nature areas cost, and everything else is overpopulated. I've seen some good spots by the river, but you get some scraggly strangers wondering by. The dogs will always let me know though. I like places where you can grab your pack and hike a few miles and set up camp where there is no one else around.

Well. I dont know if your familiar with Hitchcock park but it's out by crescent IA, near Mo Valley. It's like $3 to get in and they have designated camping areas but it's so big that I've always just blazed my way around the woods far from the ranger station and camped out in the boonies. I've even had people drop me off and I've stayed out there with my dog for a few days without seeing a single person other than on the main trails. Very cool.

Lets see. Also out in that area is a hidden little wildlife preserve called sawmill hollow. On weekends there are usually people coming and goin, mostly fisherman but its a nice little chill spot for the most part. I like to canoe and swim out there. Not big and not solitare. Just a nice little lake in the loess hills.

Most of the places I like are on private property. A couple days ago a couple friends and I stayed the night in a little rickety boat house parked next to the river. At about 10pm we finnaly had to light up the propane heater. Stayed pretty warm through the night. Maybe it was just the rum. hehe. But ya theres some places along the river that are nice. Just gotta find em.

I guess that's one of my biggest complaints about NE too but ya just gotta make due. I find new spots just exploring a little bit and asking around. If I think of anymore I'll let ya know.

I appreciate it. I am planning on getting back out of this place as soon as possible. Nebraska is an alright place, but I need mountains and real forests. Though there are a few neat spots around here. My wife and I are discussing hitting up Tennesee. Not set in stone yet though. Thanks for the info
