I'm making the switch from vegetarian back to vegan!

I was a vegan for 3 months I felt great I stopped because it was hard to eat out, go to my friends, or go away for a weekend. But I think I can find ways around that. Plus the family non sense with your gunna die cause your not eating healthy.. I think I can with stand that.. Im still doing it.

As of tomorrow I'll feel better!

i did that thing for a while... going back and forth between vegetarian and vegan because of food/family circumstances, but i eventually chose veganism over convenience. congrats on switching back.

i hope it works out for you and your family's not too critical. my extended family pretty much hate it that i'm not eating meat and cheese! i'm going to wither away! ooooeee

That's exactly where I am! On my own, I can do the vegan thing, but if I'm eating with friends or visiting family (been doing a lot of that this summer), I don't have the confidence to refuse to eat what I'm served. Although I've been able to avoid meat, but it seems that there is dairy in EVERYTHING! Even in veggies--they're cooked in butter or with bacon or whatever.

Congrats, Brand New Soul. I hope eventually to be able to post, like you, that I'm no longer waffling back and forth!

About the going back-and-forth... I might be a weirdo where this is concerned. I still eat vegan with other people, if I'm forced to eat out or at someone else's house. Before I eat with anybody I always make sure they are aware of my "strange and scary" eating habits. :) That way I never really feel rude in refusing anything, I just remind them I'm vegan. Anyway, I don't eat much at all compared to most people, so it's no biggie to me if I end up with a very small portion of whatever vegan option there might be.

...That said, I still don't eat with other people (besides my husband), or away from home if I can help it. Most people don't understand cross-contamination, wait staff sometimes get annoyed when I ask about ingredients, and it's just been a habit for the last dozen years of my life, not to eat socially. It makes me feel awkward, eating and munching in a social situation, so even before I went vegan I was accustomed to refusing food. :)

Well that is a shame. That you don't eat socially. Maybe because I'm Italian, food is so important as a social thing to me. I love to cook for friends.

My mom is vegetarian, but not vegan, and I think she feels weird about eating at my house too. I eat meat, but I prefer fruits, veggies and seafood, so I guess I'll never be vegan, since I could never give up fish. Pescatarian? I don't know.
