I'm gonna be honest with you all now, the only reason i went became veggie to begin with was cos i was trying to kop off with a vegan girl (sucessfully i may add!). Even after I stopped seeing her tho i became so engrossed with the vegetarian lifestyle that i just carried it on.

Anyway even tho I am a now fully fledged non-meat eater i still get hunger pangs every time i walk past a BBQ. There's no way i'm going back to eating meat but as i was raised on it i cant help but enjoy the smell of bacon, beefburgers etc.

Is it just me or is anyone else in the same situation.

The smell makes me sick quite literally. in the first few months tho, meat still smelled good but that wore off much more quickly then i thought it would. i cant even be around it at this point because it makes me want to vomit. its burning flesh.....we are conditioned to like it but imagine if you never smelled or saw meat in your life and then was all the sudden at a BBQ....youd probably hack.

The smell makes me ill as well, especially pork and chicken. However, there are plenty of veg*ns who still like the smell. My husband does.

I find that the smell of only meat cooking is not something I like but if I mostly smell whatever the topping is (bbq sauce, bread crumbs etc.) then I like it.

I tend to agree with this philosophy. There are some cuisines and food combinations that make me ill due to allergy (shellfish for one). There was also a time when I had to go to a clinic in the morning to give a fasting blood sugar and I had to pass a Burger King. While I knew I could smell the animal fat sizzling in the air, truth be told I was also smelling food being cooked.

No need to feel guilt about it. Hey! I pass 18 year old girls in the mall every now and again and there is NO WAY I would be even remotely interested in eating one of them ;)

Yay for you staying commited to it. :)

Hmm can kinda relate to that, it's pretty tough to undo all those years of programing.

Well, I've been a vegetarian for about 12 years and last year my husband and I went vegan. At first we went hardcore and then every now and then we'd have cheese. Now I am pregnant and while the smell and look of meat still makes me sick (although anything with BBQ sauce always smells good), I started craving eggs and dairy more. I always cook vegan at home but a couple of times when I went out to breakfast I just had to have eggs.
No I don't think you are unnatural. Unless we were raised vegan, most of us still were conditioned meat eaters at some point. But obviously, we can also become conditioned non-meat eaters. Good for you for sticking with it.

I'll admit that sometimes when meat's cooking, I think it smells good. But the thought of ever having to go anywhere near it, almost makes me throw up in my mouth.

I don't think it was cool that you went veggie just to appeal to your ex, but whatever. The fact that you're staying with it, is pretty cool.

I don't think it's up to any of us to judge whether it was "cool" or not that he went veggie because of his ex. The same thing goes for people that argue that it's not cool to become veggie because it's trendy. Whatever the reason, at least these people are giving it a shot. It's even better when they're sticking with it.

Going veggie is easily one of the best decisions i've made. I may not have started with the best intentions but having read up on it i am now committed for the right reasons. I've had alot of arguments with my friends and family over it, but that only strengthens my commitment to the cause.

I'm only a 3 and a half months into it tho and i'm still pretty much in the early stages. Finding this forum definitely helps so thanks for all your advise

    Well good for you :)

Sorry if my post seemed a bit bitchy, I just have a certain anomosity towards my ex at the moment, and anything that reminds me of him makes me want to kick things.

But, I do really give you props for getting into it... I'm glad that you stuck with it, and that you learned a lot about it :)
