I'm 44 and I still can't drive, seems like I never will. People call me lazy for being 44 and not driving. I received over 30 hours of driving lessons in 2003 , on an automatic car, and I sucked so much the driving teachers had to rotate with each other for each session, as I "stressed them out" (they may have feared for their life too, now that I think about it) , so I stopped. The faces the instructors made were not only discouraging, but desperate. And I felt worse every day, because I never progressed in classes, I made the same mistakes.

I don't see the point in trying again. I feel like I would be a real danger on the road, so it's better for anyone if I just don't. My husband and my employees are driving me around or i am using an uber. I think it’s for the better I don’t wanna be a danger for others.

If you think that you are a possible danger for others on the road, then leave the driving to others. You know your own self better than anyone else.

It is not a tragedy not to know how to drive. Enjoy your life as it is and don't stress yourself because of something so trivial. If you haven't needed at this point in your life you probably don't. Not you couldn't learn. Your life is based on not driving

Watch a "Walton's" TV episode. I can't remember name of it. Michael Learned. Who's character is named Olivia Walton. Learns to drive. & was close to 44yrs old.
Have you ever driven, say a riding law

If you really want to learn how to drive, you might be able to use a driving simulator to get comfortable, and then try drivers ed again. It may be that your anxiety about driving is the obstacle, and you'll be able to overcome that.

It could be that you're really not sufficiently competent to drive, but in that case you probably won't be issued a license.

I have so many fears when it comes to operating a car and being on the road. It seems so difficult. I know people who have got their license just after taking lessons, once.

My mom lived to 99. Never drove, never got a license. I think dad just didn't want to deal with teaching her.

Even if that's true, it doesn't matter. You don't have to be like other people.

It's not hard once you get used to it.

This is why I'd suggest trying to find a good simulator rather than taking driving lessons first. You might be able to get more comfortable learning with zero risk.

I guess as long as you don't mind that you don't drive, there's no problem.

Why would everybody need to drive? On one side of the fam neither of my grandparents ever learned, and living in a city with public transport did not need it.

Some people have medical conditions preventing them and still find a way to live with it.

I know even some not doing it out of ecological concerns and principles and only use public and hitch.

Depends on circumstances and your reasons not to.

At the same time I had a partner that was driving in theory, but very insecure and only on a known route to work. I was kind of making her drive us around for about two years until she become confident, just took more time than usual, but still got there and I later had no problems at all having her be behind the wheel way more often than anyone else I dated.
It probably helped that I don’t really get stressed in traffic even if I can get anxiety otherwise, 0 panic even during accidents, a car somehow has a calming and focusing effect. I think that being relaxed and not giving a shit when she stumbled around at the beginning helped her get over that period and soon started doing OK.
It was also stick as autos become more common in Europe only in recent years.

I loved walking to work. I spent four years in a place where the office was less than a half mile away, and a nice walk it was. Home for lunch almost every day!

You are doing the planet a HUGE favor NOT driving a car. If you had one you'd quickly dream up all sorts of things to do with it, requiring energy, traffic, and expense.

That was not Amsterdam however, I rode my bicycle to work or rode the metro from the Watergrafsmeer to Amsterdam Center.
