If you watch TV YOU are the problem because: YOU are hypnotized by the drone of conformist consumerism! It blows my mind...infants are sweet souls born to love and live and share. Do we teach them the most fundamental of all truths...that the garden is our mother? No! we sit their young, loving, trusting, innocent little asses in front of the great-big-glowing-box-thingy...turn the channel to the Pit bull Bible Thumper's latest rendition of the Hypnotic Zombie Drone Chant...set the timer to a lifetime...flip the program switch to ON and distract them while we go away to have more me-me’s. Our babies learn to hear the words even when there is no sound! Conform…compete…consume…breed… conform…compete…consume…breed… conform…compete…consume…breed… conform…compete…consume…breed… conform! The circle is unbroken! The nature of human nature is Mother Nature and the mother of nature is the garden.
I feel you, I'm not so down with TV and its true people are influenced by it.. but not everyone is so susceptible. I watch television sometimes, is it such a crime to just wanna sit and be entertained with no effort sometimes? There are people that definitely overdo it and there are programs that are definitely just.. wrong... like reality show bullshit. Basically I don't think I'm corrupted and I don't think I'm the problem, I agree with you to an extent.
Yes Magical Fire Lady …there is a crime but you are not the perpetrator. Corruption happens when a useful tool is used for insidious purposes. Not you…the medium! I am awed at the power of the medium and I am disgusted that the “powers that be” are using it as a tool of behavior modification infilling all the useful, relevant, educational, informational programming with the incessant hypnotic chant…conform, compete, consume, breed! …conform, compete, consume, breed! …conform, compete, consume, breed!... Can’t you hear it…conform, compete, consume, breed? If you do… then you can relate to my argument. Fortunately, in this case we are not throwing the baby out with the bath water. Spend your new found freedom getting to know yourself: The nature in human nature is Mother Nature and the mother of nature is the garden. We should learn every important lesson in life in the context of the garden and we should teach our children that simple truth. We will learn to be in harmony with the seasons of life, we will know how to dance and we will celebrate often...tending the earth, planting good seeds, pulling weeds, and celebrating this wondrous harvest with our friends and neighbors. And best of all we will know wholiness!
I am proud to say I do not own a television. When my fiancé purchased a house I let him know that it would be completely unnecessary. Now the trick is weaning myself from the computer, which I have been doing fairly well, spending my time crocheting, sewing, playing the piano, cleaning, gardening, and just plain grooving!
there is nothing wrong with telelvision when you are in the mood the problem is thought police who tell others how to live lets see you "take to the streets" I really want to see what you actually accomplish
In “hippie” lingo "take to the streets" means to get things done. You want to see? I’ll show you…you show me! (careful what you ask for!) Quite high paying job in aerospace to work in harmony. Executive board member of major transit union. Filed safety complaint…fired as whistleblower…sued and won. Founding member of local community garden. Board member of community nonprofit organization. Community organizer. Gardener. And you?
I still think you are a fascist and should mind your own business does your arm hurt patting yourself on the back?
now children...this arguement is not worth it..no arguement is. i get the drift with the tv-human-corruption thing. When we watch tv, we are only seeing what "they" want us to see and nothing more. When we give into their plan, we are practically throwing ourselves at the mercy of our opponents. Now does that sound like something we would do? If more people knew what was going into tv programming, i'd have to doubt the exsistence of the tv..
No...I assumed that I was answering an honest question. You asked...I replied respectfully. I trusted you. My bad...I won't make that mistake again. The only pain I feel from you is in my ass! Peace and love!
Ahh....indeed! Sounds like you are asking for a judgment here. I qualify every opinion that I have with the understanding that as a matter of principle I will NOT let my ignorance stand in my way of having many opinions. That said! TV is bad. We need to unplug it for awhile and get our gardens in order. And the computer...the computer has access to all TV programming… or haven’t you noticed? So technically my answer to you is two fold. Yes (in my opinion)….they are alike! Yes (in my opinion)….they are different! Peace and love, Charlie
To put it bluntly...we the people are sitting on our we the people butts entranced by the comfromist, competative, consumerist drone of mind numbing TV programming. Add the volitable mixture of bureaucratic zombie babble and then you see what our kids see! I can hear clearly now...conform, consume, compete, breed...conform, consume, compete, breed...conform, consume, compete, breed...conform, consume, compete, breed...conform, consume, compete, breed! Can't you hear it? It's getting closer......
How?? Posting on this board takes more mental effort than watching American Idol. Answering a poll is different from calling in to A.I. because you are encouraged to explain yourself. The board is a way to interact with other people. Those people are not chosen on the basis of marketability. This board may not be "the REVOLUTION" and "lets all get online and overthrow the system" is silly talk. But it's a whole lot more human than the babble box. John Prine had it right! (Well the first line anyway, I don't like gardening.)
get used to that feeling It seems that you have everything figured out, yet do good deeds for the wrong reasons....bragging about them. You have made a ridiculous blanket statement that is so easily refuted, there are plenty of educational and informative TV programs on the air. It can be a very valuable tool. Plus you make it seem like every second of your day is being productive which is clearly not the case as I see you spend at least 10 minutes per day being a total douche.
Seemonster66 Me think that Seemonsters would be more appropriate to you attitude...but I guess when you take your location in to account it makes sense. You did ask the question......remember?? You are right I am a douche bag idiot to think that you asked an honest question. ..I'll say you watch 8 hours of TV a day.....minimum! Peace and love...try it...you'll like it. goodbye!
nah, I don't hardly watch TV at all You know what I'm most impressed with...gardener, did you hear that guys, we have a gardener here Practice what you preach, if you believe in peace, then don't come in here condemning anyone who watches any amount of TV. Maybe you could post your resume on here? Anyway, believe me, I am thrilled a true guru has arrived here to tell you the truth, none of what you listed is that impressive, and no, I'm not going to get into some pissing contest as to who has done more good deeds that you are trying to get going here
 Exactly. Now that someone has come along to tell me the truth about tv and it's evils maybe I can spend my time pulling weeds as well and be a true revolutionary.
Anybody who spends much time watching TV probably isn't gonna be much help with anything except being part of the herd. TV is the most addictive, insidous drug in the world. It's so easy...sit your ass down, turn off your brain and follow the instructions...relax, after all it's only entertainment...for the braindead.
I volunteer at a library and the humane league..... I volunteer at soup kitchens sometimes too. I give blood as often as they allow you to. I write to politions and newspapers and sign petitions. I also watch television.
