Don't go around trying to start a revolution. By doing that you will only be trading one form of oppression for another. If you truly want to be free, you simply must be willing, ready, and able to defend yourself against oppression. The government of the United States is becoming more like a police state every day. The people of America, and most of the western world, have been fooled into thinking that they are in constant danger of being attacked by criminals and terrorists, and so they consent to having essential freedoms taken away from them. Freedoms like freedom of speech, freedom of travel, freedom of the press, freedom to be secure in one's person and property from unwarranted search and seisure, and perhaps most importantly, the freedom to self defence. We have more laws, more restrictions, and more police than ever before, but who is going to defend us from the police? Who is going to protect you if government agents bust down your door to haul you off to some prison camp because you posted a weblog that the powers-that-be don't like? You are. We all are. Do not attempt to violently overthrow the government. Throughout history, violent revolutions have always ended with just another form of oppression, often worst than what was started with. No, don't start a war, but be prepared to fight one if you have to. I know that lots of people on this site think that guns are evil things and that somehow owning, or even touching one, will turn you into a horrible violent person. You may also believe that pacifism is an effective tool for change. This simply isn't true, in fact, it is exactly what they want you to think. Peace and love are nice concepts, but pacifism just makes you easier to drag off to the prison camp. The people who will seek to oppress you aren't philosophers and artists, they are soldiers and generals. They only understand violence and war, and in war an unarmed and unprepared enemy who thinks that singing happy-feely songs will bring victory is an easy target. If you aren't willing to fight for your country and yourself, I would suggest that you leave the country, there might be a place out there somewhere where the war cannot reach you, but believe me friends, war is coming. There's no need to go to war, the war will come to you. Be ready if and when it does. Buy and learn to use and maintain a firearm. The founding fathers did not put the right to bear arms in the constitution because they were avid hunters, do not be afraid of firearms, a firearm is an inanimate object, it will not harm anyone if you don't point it at them and pull the trigger. Of course, proper safety should be observed with firearms, keep them out of reach of children and always handle them with care. There is no need to break laws to arm yourself, there are some fairly fascist gun laws in place around the country, but almost anywhere you can own a shotgun or a hunting rifle. I would reccommend, if you can afford to and it is legal where you live, that you keep a handgun and a smallish calibre semi-automatic rifle. A shotgun and a high powered rifle with a zoomed scope can also be very effective. Don't forget to buy ammo and practice with your weapons as often as you can. If you live in a city, be prepared to leave for the country at a moment's notice. During a government's war on it's own citizens a city is a very bad place to be. Have a backpack full of non-perishable food and a few clips of ammunition in your closet, and have an escape route planned. Keep yourself in decent shape. Don't work out so you look good, work out so you have a body you can depend on in tough situations. You don't need a membership at the gym, a special diet, or expensive exercise equipment. Just run (don't jog, it's bad for your knees) and do push ups and sit ups for 15 or 20 minutes whenever you have the chance. As for food, just eat a wholesome and balanced diet and you should be ok, it's allright to treat yourself to the occasional tasty snack, but oreo cookies are not a meal no matter how many you eat. If they bust down your door for unconstitutional reasons, be prepared to defend yourself. They may have better weapons and technology, but there are far more of us than there are of them. If they find that busting down doors is too dangerous, they won't be able to get their soldiers to do it. Remember, their soldiers are just fragile human beings who ultimately just want what is best for themselves just like you and me, no matter if they wear a black ski-mask and fancy uniforms. They may take you whether you resist or not, but don't let them take you without a fight. Only you are really capable of defending yourself. When the government turns on the people there will be no-one but yourself to defend you from the government. If the shit hits the fan you have to be able to deal with whatever might happen, your life and liberty, and that of your country, will ultimately depend on you and you alone, pray that it won't come to that, but sticking your head in the sand will change nothing.
i think our main problem is the ammasing of wealth, not by our governments but by our corporations. it is the corporations who run the government not vise versa. the french revolution seemed to work out alright...minus all the deaths.
Pressed_Rat, Just out of curiosity, what sorts of firearms are you allowed to own in New York? I must confess ignorance to NY gun laws, are the laws different in NYC than in the rest of the state? Dangermoose, Fascism isn't just a word, fascism is a system of government developed in the early part of the twentieth century in Italy. Founded by Benito Mussolini in 1919, fascism is a system of government marked by a totaltarian and oppressive government working hand in hand with powerful corporations in order to achieve the highest possible level of control over every aspect of the lives of the population and greater power in the world at large. Under fascism the government does not control corporations and corporations do not control the government, aside from titles of office and company logos, government and corporations are virtually indestinguishable. It certainly isn't the only unbearably oppressive form of government ever developed, but it seems to be what the current United States government is trying to achieve. Of course, nowadays the word 'fascism' is used to refer to any oppressive government, but it's original meaning is indeed what I believe is being attempted in the states.
Something tells me both you guys spent Y2K in a bunker surrounded by canned beans and 5.56mm ammo while the rest of us were out partying.
ha! (er… yikes!) indeed, a pavid and trite jeremiad of the armed and paranoid, a cynical and abhorrent promulgation… talk about being afraid! doomsayer, your forum propagates more fear than all the president’s men. lock yourself, and your high-powered rifle with zoom scope, in your bomb shelter and be gone with ya. (maybe get some sun, yeah.) . . .(i think i'm in the wrong forum) . . .(please don't shoot)
Ummmm... no. Somehow, the unlikely possibility that my pc would tell me that it was the year 1900 did not exacty strike me as much reason to be afraid. I was at a rocking party on the beach in Port Aransas, Texas for y2k, but thanks for stereotyping. Don't shoot? Why would I shoot a naieve pacifist? That would be senseless. Oh, but I forgot, anybody who questions the government is obviously an insane and paranoid shut-in, and anyone who owns a gun is either a dangerous lunatic or a retarded but harmless redneck. Everybody knows that the planet called Earth is a happy-lovey children's playground full of candy, rainbows, and talking frogs. Don't worry, I'm sure that your government is doing everything it can to protect you from the big bad fellow citizens. Propagating fear? Who propagates more fear, a concerned citizen who tells you to watch out for the government, or a government who tells you to watch out for terrorists, anthrax, ricin, people with cameras, middle eastern men, secondhand smoke, the devil weed, mexicans, salt, Saddam Hussein and your fellow citizens? But don't worry, the government has plenty of high-powered rifles, surveillance blimps, fully automatic weapons, stun grenades, tanks, fighter jets, bombs, nukes, chemical and biological weapons, crowd dispersal sound weapons, patriot acts, concentration camps, bunker-buster low-wield nuclear devices, space based weapons systems and secret police to protect you from all of that bad stuff.
I'm not promoting fear, I'm promoting caution and self-empowerment. Ask yourself this: Who has more to gain from fearmongering? I, who am gaining nothing except satisfaction in a sense of community service from warning people of what I believe are very real dangers and how I think that they can best protect themselves by empowering themselves, or my government, who gains ever increasing power and influence from scaring people with an endless list of mostly fabricated or grossly exaggerated warnings of terrorism and such, and who tells people that the best way to stay safe is to stock up on plastic sheeting and duct tape and surrender more of their freedom and independance to the government with every color-coded terror alert? I'm not asking people to be afraid, or to give me anything, I am merely suggesting that, even if my concerns are unwarranted, one has nothing to lose and everything to gain by empowering themselves.
while its always good to stock up on guns and crucifixes and stuff to keep the government away, revolution can never hurt we need another hippie movement
Use a gun to defend yourself from the government? What is this shit? What are you gonna do when they come to arrest you, shoot them and get a death sentence for being a cop killer, instead of a few months in jail?
If you have not committed any crimes and they bust down your door, you have not only a right, but a duty, to resist by any means neccesary. I love my country and the freedoms it stands for, and I will die before I allow fascist dictators to take that away from me. If you like saying yessuh, and nossuh, that's your business, cowards are generally allowed to live on as serfs under fascism, and if you like serfdom go right ahead and be their little bitch, but I will not. Sure, I don't want to have to hurt anybody, and I don't want to be hurt, and if I commit a real crime I will not resist arrest, but I will not go quietly into the night.
I agree. However, I don't really ever see the government ever coming after me, but if It did, I would defend myself. My guns are more for defense aginsts, thugs/bears/zombies. And I just like shooting. :H
Anyone else find it interesting that conservatives, who generally tout the "right to bear arms" stuff and fund the NRA to high heaven, object when someone suggests we should carry arms to defend ourselves against a fascist government? Amusing.
This is precisely why I believe people should own guns.... to "defend themselves against a fascist government." As do most TRUE conservatives. As a matter of fact, the liberal/socialist agenda of disarming the people is all about the coming New World Order. A defenseless society cannot defend itself from Big Brother, which is what they want. I don't like killing living things, which might explain why I have never hunted in my life. I do believe in the 2nd Amendment, however. I also believe in self-defense. And if it means my life (or my family's) vs. somebody elses, I choose mine.
