Give me all the info you can on them, how much it costs, how long it takes for both getting them done and waiting for them to be lookin their finest, what hair types and lengths, styles and taking care of them, managability and whatever else you can think of! Thanks!

I know some people have dreads that look like little braids, some are poofy and big or a little less poofy and small... what's up?

you can get extensions put in your hair and just leave them in and twist your roots as your hair starts to grow, then you'll get dreads and they will be seperated nicely

hey babe. Do what i did, go here http://www.knottylocks.tk

they are a forum of people who know the do's and donts of dreads. seriously though, no wax!!!

They take years and years to look really good... mine are 7 months and have good and bad days.

extensions is when you get someone to add fake hair to your hair so that it looks longer, the most common way of doing this is the make all your hair into braids. then you get a full head of long pretty braids. but as they grow out, obviously your roots aren't gonna grow in braided, so most people take them out, but you can leave the extensions in and twist at the roots and then you'll get dreads, and they will be evenly seperated and hopefully look nice too.

the only problem with that is when you have braids they only put in about a 1/4 of the amount of hair that good dread will have (thats was the misstake i made when i first dreaded my hair cos i was so used to braiding with extensions) so i woildnt recomend it.

My boyfriend (the star he is) kindly did mine. Took about a week to do - a few hours here and there each day. He back-combed sections of my hair (no braiding or anything), and I'm very happy with them. Had them a few months now, but they still have a way to go in becoming established....come to think of it, they're gonna need tightening up in a while.

Wouldn't recommend using wax...if you have to, only use a LITTLE. I keep mine clean using dread soap, but only when my head is feeling really yucky. Not best to wash them too often as they unravel at the ends.

Knotty Boy has some good advice on their website....

grow real dreads and stop offending others by acting like it is some kind of paid for fashion statement

whoever gave me that rep, i was interested in getting dreads, i dont know how i acted like it was some kind of paid for fashion statement.. if you were referring to my asking how much it costs i don't have people who can do it and i can't do it by myself no matter how much you beg to differ. i don't know why they wouldn't be real, it's not like i'm wearing a wig

its cos wax builds up inside your hair and leave LOADS of crap in it for a start... which over time WILL go mouldy.
Also Wax only prevents the dreading process, all it does is goo the hairs together and goos them down so they dont look fluffy. Fore a dreadlock to forms itsself it has to be able to let the hairs knott. The wax prevents any movement of the hairs stopping them from having the natural movement and locking together :) Thats why i say, no wax.

I just wish I could get all my hair dreaded at a time. It's taking long to just get the dreads to stay once I put them in. I'll just have to keep on working.

If you use lots of wax, it stays in the dreads and they end up feeling really yucky - more dust and dirt will stick to them, and the wax will never wash out properly. I feel it's best to have your dreads as natural as possible.
I used a little wax to help in the binding process while I was having them done. Haven't used it since.

Then again, each to their own. Do what you feel is best for you.

just letting you know dreds take time and effort. you need to take care of them and separate them because they could just turn into one big knot. in like 5-8 years they will look really nice but when you first get them they are not so pretty. i have a thread lock in my hair with my husbands hair in it. my friend is next to me...she has a good website here it is: www.knottyboy.com
she says this should help. also buy a flea comb and some bees wax and you can do it yourself at home. hope this helps peace and love.
