i seriously need a library card

but there are several steps i need to go through in order to get it and for me.. they're not easy.

1. straighten out this money things - this involves using the phone.. and possibly owing money i don't have.

2. get a new drivers license - this means i have to make an appointment, maybe retaking a written and driving test and more money i don't have.

3. go to the library - gotta be slick.. these people don't like the shoeless ones.


now i just have to talk myself into doing it.. soon! been trying to for uumm.. a few months now.

am i crazy? i don't think the therapy is helping.

 

what?...money and drivers licence??...geeze..they give 'em out to us for free here and we still dont use them

 

uh huh.. i live in umerikah. everything cost money here.. how else are people gonna get rich if they don't charge for every little service?

 

You really do have to pay for a library card?

Here it is free, you have to have ID with a photo go get a card but that can even be a bus pass and sign for any kids under 18. If you lose your card it is $1 to replace it.

 

I never even knew about the id part....all the people in my little town know me anyways...the library lady used to even call me when there was a big snowstorm to come shovel the walkway and she'd pay me way too much just to piss off the higher ups

 

Maybe because they know you. I belong to the one in Ottawa, Orleans actually but the card is good at any library in Ottawa.

Boogs....what do you need to do first to get your card?

Just make one out of card. You can laminate it later so it looks professional.

 

Also in the U.S., you can get arrested for overdue books. It's especially risky if they are state property.

gonna cost me a dollar to replace it.

but i need a valid ID.. which i do not have any more. when i went to the DMV.. they told me they couldn't give it to me because i hadn't paid all my child support.. which is not true.. so now i have to call the child support people and get that straightened out. then go back to the DMV and pay .. umm 22? dollars for a new license. wait for the license in the mail and then get a library card..

but!

i might move to a different city in a different county.. so maybe i should just wait.. and go to the library and sit and read.. thats hard for me to do though without panicking.. :frown:

 

Do you panic going to the library or just if you have to stay there?

Take advantage... I think public libraries are one of the more valuable services governments provide.

 

Speak for yourself ...we go every week pretty much. My boys love to read.

But yeah, we just need id. Also they give them out to kids in grade 1 along with a field trip to learn how the library works.

Boog, I suggest wearing hoop skirts to the library to hide the feets.

.. ooh kidhood trauma!! i remember getting YELLED at for saying library wrong as a little kid.. my shiva that lady is a raging bitch.

i used to go all the time.. partly to hide.. then when i first had my kids we were there so often that my son had lost some toy welders goggles and they called us to tell us they had them..

yeah.. or long pants.. the trick is to just go and do it and not look suspicious and they'll never notice.

 

I should get mine too - Pittsburgh has a great library and I can use it for free if I get a library card from my hometown - but they are NEVER open and you have to do it in person - or pay $35 bux...bad craziness
