I read about the early feminist movement, and how they got together and burned their bras . I think that's awesome! I never liked to wear bras, so I just quit altogether, and now if anyone ask I can just say it's part of a feminist movement.
Actually the bra-burning thing was a myth. Someone started that rumor and it spread like wild-fire, and now it's worked its way into modern stereotypes. I'm a feminist and the idea of burning bras is ridiculous to me. I don't think I could walk around or exercise with these D-cups without serious support. Ouch! http://www.snopes.com/history/american/burnbra.asp
The bra burning protest at the Miss America Pageant didn't really happen. Yes they tossed their Bra's in a barrel to be set on fire, but the police wouldn't allow them to burn it. However, this did spark other feminist groups to set their bra's on fire at other, lesser known protests since then.
Some people believe that bras are restrictive and unnecessary, and that they are just another symbol of the patriarchy, like corsets were in the 19th century. Personally I like my bras, but I don't have a problem with women who don't. It's all about how they're perceived.
What women at the time were saying was that bras distort the natural shape of a woman's body, and if society demands that women wear them, it's society that needs to change and not women's bodies. But back then it wasn't perceived as being a horror, unlike now. Now young women have a fetish about wearing bras, and if you ever see a woman without one, she's most likely middle-aged. As for D size boobs, I wonder what would happen if you went to a tribal village somewhere and lent a bra to a woman there who'd never seen one in her life. Then a week later you'd go and ask for it back. Would she say, "Hey, that's the most wonderful idea ever! Can I keep it?" Or it might be more like "White women wear these things all the time? You must be nuts." I think women who are used to their breasts hanging naturally learn to move so they stay comfortable, and they might also simply be familiar with the way it feels and not call it painful. Are women in places where bras aren't routine going around all the time muttering "Ow ow ow, my boobs hurt"? It's hard to believe.
well that's certainly not true. i've seen plenty of younger women clearly without bras. the best way to tell would be to post pics and see what he does.
sometimes i think feminists are so over the top. the bra isn't a sign of female opression, it doesn't really deserve to be burned like that. its meant to be supportive for women, running with bouncing boobs isn't very comfortable at certain sizes.
