Ive been looking through a bunch of pages, and there really arent that many dread forums (at least that i can find), so i decided i would register.
I had my hair backcombed like 2 months ago (in 2 days its exactly two months) and it went from being bone straight and thin, to dreads.
I havent used wax or anything else in my hair, i do wash them with DreadHeadHQ shampoo, but ive seen that a lot of people prefer Knotty Boy, so thats soon to change.
It wasnt really spur of the moment to me, i've been thinking about dreads since 7th grade and im now in 11th, i just didnt know anyone with them so they never came to be until this year.
but heres a few pictures of before and after.

    Before Dreads Pictures.

This is last years school picture.

The day after it happened, at my friends house. I actually play guitar i just wanted to be funny looking for the picture.

They still have rubber bands in them in this picture, I took the rubber bands out about 2 weeks ago.

I got out of the shower a little while ago so my hair is wet and greasy looking, so once they dry i will take a picture of them.
I'm still in the half-straight-half-dread phase, its just the camera doesnt pick up all the loose hairs.

ya something i've noticed is that straight hair = lots of facial hair and thick hair is not usually as much.
at least from what ive seen around my school and such.
i havent left my state so i dont know if people else where are opposite.
    but heres to wishing.

ya i realized that a little late.
i have some areas where the bands were that i can put my fingers threw.
but i dont really care, im basically letting them do they're thing on their own.
i just roll them in school cuz i get bored.

i have an exboyfriend that never intended to have dreads but he always twists this one section of hair and plays with it when he's bored, and it's a dread now (he's done it for years)

    ya im seriously only 16.
i can pull 18 at the gas station tho.
but if u find cavemen cute, more power to you :D

soaringeagle, u have some gnarly ass wiseman locks, so as far as im concerned u are the source of information on this subject.
but....personally i would not want to get them that long, 2 people to clean them isnt to fun sounding.
and i just had the guy back comb it to get them started, i hate having dirty hair laying on me, so just leaving my hair alone and not washing it as often wasnt really to appealing to me.

so with the roots, the guy who did mine said to leave a rubber band on them, he does that, just so the hair is basically fed into the lock.
and since i have really thin straight hair i was thinking that it was a pretty good idea, but i want to hear what you guys have to say about it first.

EDIT: oh and since tomorrow is 2 months, i will get a more recent picture.

    take the bands out
they will become swallowed they will melyt and dry rot they will become gross and when u try taking them iout they rip apaert knots
u need nothing on the rootse
the roots must be free to move to dread

and trust me of greengorl was the 2nd person washin the dreads it WOULD be fun

(she knows i can play with her like that we've been freinds a long time)

really tho latrelu i do the deep cleanse more often then not so iu just dump it onand wait..nothing hard about that..
its all the tangling up in wet dreads thatsthe problem
