I've had it for 8 days and I feel like I'm gonna die. I'm dizzy, out of breath constantly, got a headache and stiff neck, hot from the fever in 80 degree heat anyway, can't look outside because the sun hurts my head and I'm so groggy cos I can't sleep at night... All I can do is lay around and it's driving me crazy!! I was starting to think I had a brain tumor, but my aunt told me that meningitis was going around and that it was the viral kind, so there's nothing I can do. That's the main reason I'm going to the hopsital to have it confirmed... I'm not going to spend $100 to get a giant hollow needle shoved in my back to have them tell me to go home and go to bed because they can't give me anything. I've got ibuprophen, and if it gets really bad, I've got vicodin. I'll manage... but it's getting so fucking old.
...you're saying I should go for the $100 needle in my back or are you saying I shouldn't say I have meningitis? Do you not think this is a reasonable assumption, as it is going around and I felt the symptoms after going out three different places around town where I was around a lot of people? It seems quite obvious to me what with the symptoms... The virus runs from 7-10 days. If it goes on longer than that, I will go in. Until then, I'll stick to my theory.
I got a benign deformity in my brain. A little space where liquid accumulates and I'm prone to dizziness. May have been the viral mengitis I had as an infant. Got to a doc.
I'm rarely alone. If I pass out or something, I'll be taken care of. I highly doubt it will go that far, though, as it feels like the worst is over. It's just getting really old. I wanna be better already...
Guys... seriously... They can't do anything for it. They tell you to stay home, lay in bed, take ibuprophen for pain and swelling. It's a VIRUS. It's not serious in ADULTS with healthy immune systems. It will pass. This is what the docs have been telling people all week in the ER. I'm not going unless it stays till Friday. Also, it's not as serious as the bacterial version. That's the one that kills people. I had the vaccine for that one, so I'm pretty sure I don't have it. Once again. No way I'm going in for the needle. Usually I say better safe than sorry, but I've been paranoid in the past and it just spends my money...
I don't care if you go in or not; it will not effect me in anyway. I just laugh when I see average joes reading online medical encylopedias and they see the syptoms, and they diagnois themselves and so forth; they are idiots. Do what you want; I will still laugh.
If something lasts 7-10 days, on day 8 you should be nearly back on your feet. Just sayin'... This $100 seems to be the big problem for you...a stitch in time saves nine...
Thanks, but I didn't get the info from an online source. Once again, got it from my aunt who has heard it about a dozen times in the past week... from... DOCTORS! What a concept... $100 after I just paid off my college bill for the year? You bet it's a problem. Oh, and did I mention the GIANT HOLLOW NEEDLE IN THE BACK? I'll wait the two or three extra days. I do feel much better than I did last week, but I figured everyone else gets a chance to whine, why shouldn't I? Just getting sick of laying around, having to take frequent breaks when I have motivation problems to begin with, heh... I also have had to call in for several days because the woman I work for doesn't want my disease... It's just... erg... shit to do. Bf moving in in a week, school starting in two, a garden to tend to, work...
And how do you diagnose yourself ? Internet ? Ahhhh...Its annoying when 40 year old housewives come to the doctor's and act like they know everything just cause they googled it. I feel sorry for doctors
The $100 is actually JUST the visit and exam. Who knows what the spinal tap would cost... all for them to tell me I have a virus and they can't give me an antibiotic. Hell no, I'm poor. Unless I'm bleeding in the street, I don't go to the doctor. I'm very stubborn about these things, but I'm not stupid. If things get really bad, I'll go, but at this point in time, it hardly sounds worth it.
Internet and people. It has never failed before. Plus, both parents are doctors, even though neither works as one. But yes, I support diagnosis over the internet. We have information at our fingertips... we should use it.
Your parents are doctors ??? Oh how awesome ! Its kinda weird that you didnt go to med school then. Cause you know how it works - doctors marry doctors and then have lil doctors.... You shouldnt use the information you got cause you're making doctors feel useless. General practitioners atleast. If you dont mind me asking, what kinda doctors are your parents ?
General practitioners are useless, other than the fact that they can legally prescribe medication. I didn't go to med school because I am not interested in medicine. Broke my mama's heart... but it's not like we could afford it... and I refuse to take loans out. My mama is an epidemiologist while my dad is a physical therapist or something like that (sports doctor).
Oh yeah....Med schools are probably really expensive in the US. And yeah, general practitioners are useless, but unforunately, some doctors just cant get a specialization. BTW, your folks probably met at Uni, started dating....Same old story....SO cuuute
