They sprain a lot and easily.... my one ankle I probably sprain 2-3 times in a year. And last night I sprained it again... it didn't hurt bad til I woke up and stepped on it.... ouch! It really hurts pretty bad.... I know in a day or two it'll be much better but it's so annoying....
Usually flip flops if it's hot out or just regular like walking sneakers that fit just fine. I think my one ankle in particular is just so weak from being sprained before that it's an endless cycle...
Good, because if you wore shoes like these, I don't think you could blame your ankles... http://www.1funny.com/images/lostnehow_shoes_2.jpg I'm having hell with these images today, lol.
lol well hopefully they will strengthen....maybe there is something special you can get to support your ankle, but I dont know
Since you enjoy hiking, don't you have a pair of hiking boots around which offer ankle support. Hotwater
another red x.... anyways yeah i probably dont hike in the best shoes- when im coming down hills with lots of rocks, my sneakers dont grasp the rocks well and ive almost fallen plenty of times.... so i should probably work on that.... as for strengthening excercises - im sure i can and im actually gonna look into that. and i dont know.... maybe cate..
One time I was drunk and singing karioke and fell off the stage and sprained it bad. Haha... oh man.... Most of the time though I'll just be walking and ankle will just give out and it hurts like hell... being drunk makes it happen but it happens when im sober too... haha.
You might want to try boots when hiking on uneven surfaces or a hiking sandal with a tread that grips well. But I wouldn't wear things like boots a lot since they tend to weaken the ankles. They brace the ankles, but then the ankles aren't working freely so they weaken. In the biomed arena there's a saying about things like splints and casts that brace the body but weaken it at the same time: "With you there, why should I"? .
curling a towel with your toes will strengthen the ankle increasing the range of dorsiflexion will help also
Okay, thanks for the suggestions shaggie and fitz....Im gonna try the towel thing and maybe get boots or at least more supportive shoes for hiking. That saying totally makes sense.... Range of dorsiflexion, Chris?
dorsiflesxion is your toes are going towards your knees easy way to do this is get near a wall. put 1 foot close to the wall, but dont' let the toes touch the wall. then bend at the knee and see if the knee can touch the wall. if it can, move your foot a little farther away. continue to do so until you can't touch the wall with your knee while stay flat footed
