They found a 1 inch mass on my left ovary it appears to be a cyst, or the other:( but they are not certain more tests need to be done. Unfortinitly i do not have insurence, nor a job. Its hard to keep a job when one is tired all the time. I basically have all the symtoms of ovarian cancer which scares the shit out of me, and it runs in the family(three aunts have had it one great aunt and died)

What lead me to find this out was i was bleeding for 28 days straight severe back pain, tired, cramping. buring when peeing having to pee often, unusal bowel movements for the last three months . i thought i had a STD but i got tested for everything and i was clean... but they did find that mass..

now the state of texas will not give me isurence(medicad) because you have to have to make 200 or less a month to get it, i am a artist and i don't make much but i do make more then that a month! so i don't qualify bastards! so here i am just having to pay the heafity er bills and figure out a way to get to a specialist gyn and get seen. :( sorry i needed to rant with women

Well I sympathise with you. Just recently there was a thread from Applespark that sounded like she she have been in hospital on a saline drip but could not afford it. I guess I should count my blessings.

I hope you can get some medical care and recover. If you do suspect ovarian cancer, prompt treatment is the key to survival. Go to a large hospital ER. They will do tests and you can pay the bill off over time. Please don't ignore this.

Ya, what she said.... I also live in Texas (San Antonio) and I know for a fact that certain hospitals that have clinics in them as well have a plan (I forget what it is called) that based on your income they pay a percentage of your bills and then you are responsible for the rest over time. Payments as little as 17$ a month.
We used it when I had emergency surgery due to a tubal pregnancy which ended up in my fallopian tube exploding. I know it seems really frustrating but there we found out there were over 5 different programs for people in need of help...there is more options then just medicaid. You just have to go searching for them. Being a woman is a benefit too because there are special programs just for women. You have to make alot of phone calls and ask alot of questions about where to be directed for help. But you can do it! Just keep hounding people and eventually you will get in touch with the right person.
I know that University Hospital here in San Antonio has alot of different programs.
Best of luck and keep us updated.

ok i pasted from my lj who and what i've been through the last several weeks. i have been here a year and this hasnt been my opnly health issue ever i have tried to seek insurence before in this state its near to impossible, either its they are not excepting new patients or you have to be on medcaide to see them or they never call you back, and io have filed Many complaints against many companies already because they are not doing their job, ie helping people!!

    I haven't really been honest....

I have some health issues going on...

When i was 17 i had some unusual bleeding that happened during my periods i got very tired and ill i had many tests done they believed it was ovarian cancer. It turned out to be something but not that but i was told to watch for that in the future due to the fact it runs in the familyAnyways...

Issues have come up again and i ended up in the er yesterday ill and tests are being run AGAIN but most likely i will have to go to a real clinic or planned parenthood(because i have no insurance) to get some real tests done.

I'm scared and angry. Two years ago i was getting my throat jabbed because they thought i had thyroid cancer.I'm 25 for christs sakes!!!

I'm scared because my grandfathers family of 12, 10 of them all died because of some form of cancer. Will i be like them?

    NEXT....

I got the results back today i do not have PID so therefore i was told to go get checked for ovarian caner or endomteriosis (sp?) . I called planned parenthood, they don't check for ovarian caner only cervical, and of course they had no where they could think of to refer me to. So here i sit still bleeding, ill, and uncertain. The way things look i won't find out because there is no place in this goddamn state that will see me and treat me, and maybe i don't want to find out. Fuck this i don't care. Health is overrated anyways...

    NEXT....

I sat at the ER again yesterday for 7 hrs because i wanted to get to the bottom of this issue!

I felt like a ass half the people sitting in the waiting room were people from new orleans who had been brought over to tx, most were people who had drank some of the water because they were stuck there for three mother fucking days without any. It was sad. I talked and smoked with one guy who said hes staying here in Austin he wont go home it haunt's him he lost his brother.:(

So i finally saw a DR who was rude to me asked me why i wasn't seeing a OB i told him because i didn't have insurance and because nobody in this state would see me. He did a manual exam( for you males that means he basically stuck his hand inside then one on the outside to see if he felt any mass) i screamed it hurt. He was like well yes it always feel's uncomfortable. He said well i feel nothing you can go home or if you feel like you really have to i guess we can do a ultrasound. I'm like duh that's why i'm here!! fucker!!

Finally they do it. Sure enough they find a 1 inch mass on my left ovary. The doctor beleives it to be a cyst but he isn't certain. So here i am now at either its a cyst or it could be cancerous. So i have to go apply for MAPS a medical card which could be a long drawn out process if they will ever call me back.(it's a you call leave your number and they call you back type of thing to set up a appointment) then i can start seeing a OB.

So of course after finding that the doctor was like oh well i guess you were right there was something. duh asshole. I havent felt good, i know my body. IT'S MY BODY. I KNOW MY FUCKING BODY!!!GGGGGRRRR...

But i'm hoping he is right and that its just a cyst. If thats the case by the time i get a ob and i go in they will do a ultra sound again and it will probably have changed size or be completely gone. Otherwise more tests will need to be done.

    NEXT....

I'm in pain tonight. Physically, this shit sucks.

I'm writing to this art program place a friend found for me who helps artists in disaster type situations. I need help. My medical bills are piling up and i'm suffocating.

    I am sorry sweetie...
I have been in your situation, I get cysts on my ovary that get as big as a tennis ball and sometimes a cantalope.. since I only have one ovary left they have to surgically remove them cause they get too big.
Every female that ovulates developes cysts.. Theres simple, complex and other ones.. They are suppose to burst, but some dont and grow bigger..
But everyone is different, and so are our bodies...
But since you have a history of ovarian cancer in your family its so important that you get it checked out and get checked out fast..But I think that whole insurance thing is beyond shitty, and makes me so angry.. I would just go to the E.R. and get checked out there, they can do ultra sound and CA-125 test (which necessarily give the results most of the time) and so forth.. You can always make payments of whatever you can each month, ya know..
I have been sued 3 times due to medical bills..I owe at least 5 grand or so..
I wish you the best of luck sweetie and screw that insurance crap..fuckers..
Your health and wellbeing is more important then anything, dont forget that..
    *Hugs*

Usually Americans are not wanted in Canada, as immigrants,(I had some freinds who had very unpleasant experiences with trying to move there after Bush was elected the first time) and even if they are, it takes a year or more for the National Health to kick in.

Three months, apparently, Mags. And I'd just go anyway. If half of Jamaica can move to Jane and Finch and deal drugs and shoot people with no repercussions, I don't see why she can't head up to Canada.

I live in Texas as well, and once found myself in the ER with no health insurance. The hospital gave me info on charities and financial aid that would help me cover the costs, and I ended up getting my $1100 ER bill completely paid for.

On another note, though, my ER bill was $1100 dollars and all they did for me was give me painkillers and drew some blood. Nothing else at all....what a rip off...

i found this at the MAP website. i know they're giving you the runaround, they usually do if you speak english, i've noticed.

What if I don't qualify for MAP?
Austin/Travis County residents who do not qualify for MAP and do not have other funding may be placed on the Austin/Travis County Community Health Center (CHC) sliding-fee scale. They can receive medical and prescription services at the Austin/Travis County Community Health Centers, on a sliding-fee basis. (City of Austin residents also can receive emergency dental services at a City dental clinic, on a sliding-fee basis.) These services require a co-payment, based on where on the sliding-fee scale the client's household income falls.

The reduced-fee scale, like the MAP income guidelines, is based on the FPIG. A resident's income may fall within the following percent pay range:
    • 0% (small co-payment required),
    • 25% (required co-payment of 25% of the total fees),
    • 50% (required co-payment of 50% of the total fees),
    • 75% (required co-payment of 75% of the total fees), or
    • 100% (resident is required to pay the total bill).
