I have this problem where everytime I try and workout I get huge but never lean. I cut back calories and have lost some weight but it's not working so good. I eat low fat high protein foods and work physically just nothing seems to be going the way I want. An average workout is usually 5 sets X 10 reps of about 6 different excercises. Then I do 50 leg raises and 100 bench situps. After that I do the treadmill for 600 calories. I'm getting built not lean though. I have always had big muscles but want them to show not look like a football player but more of a boxer
try doing higher reps/lower weight. they say high weight low reps builds mass and power, low weight high reps builds tone and endurance. try doing sets of 15+ instead of 10. not too familiar with the atkins thing personally, but from what i've heard cutting back on carbs as well as fat helps you tone too. i got pretty shredded myself from doing calisthenics (was mostly high rep stuff too). pushups, pullups, dips, squat jumps, leg lifts
What is your carbohydrate intake like? You can lose a shit ton of fat by manipulating your carbs. The leanest I ever got I didn't do any cardio. Zero. I lifted weights and was on a extremely carb restricted diet where I pretty much ate only egg whites, chicken breast, tuna, and steaks for protein and got what little carbs I allowed my self from oatmeal and veggies. Fats where obtained from olive oil. I ate low carb for about 4 days then on the fifth I would high carb to refuel my muscles with glycogen. Rinse and repeat for 4 weeks. You don't need to go this crazy though my girlfriend was on a low carb diet called "the ducan diet" and lost a nice bit of fat. There's also "south beach" and atkins (but i don't suggest atkins unless ur extremely obese.) This is a nice little site about low carb eating http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/ View attachment 48327
