the way horoscopes work is this...the sun is directly covering certain constellations throughout the year. if you were born while the sun was covering a certain constellation, that is your star sign, right? well, I was born on 3 December. that clearly makes me a Sagittarius, however, for about one week during the end of November and the beginning of December, the Sun moves out of Sagittarius, and later moves back in. so therefore, when I was born, the Sun was not in any of the 12 signs. I'm signless man!
It depends on what constellation is rising at sunrise on the day you were born. Literally, the Sun is never in a constellation, the Earth is directly between the Sunrise and the Constellation. (So much for literalism and semantics). No, that is your Sun sign. Your star sign would be the ascendant. (I tend to put more weight on which planet is in the highest degree.)
I know this post is a little old, but I'm wondering some things about it. First, june 28/cancer is my sun sign right? That's the one rising at sunrise? Also, what are star signs?
Star signs are the constellations Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Saggittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. http://www.ciaa.net/constellation.htm http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr161/lect/time/constellations.html http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/constellations/constellationjavalist.html Then, of course, there is always the asteroids, like Ceres, Juno, Vesta, etc.
i believe there was originally a 13th sign that took place at the end of the year. i forget where i read about it though. but that might have to do with what you're talking about.
actually there is another constalation in the sky. it is just not used by astrologist it is in fact used by astronomers though. learned in my college astronomy class a couple of months ago. i'll have to look up the name and post it here for those interested.
The sun signs are no longer based exactly on the constellations they are mathematically calculated. There is NO point in the paths of the luminaried and planets that is not in one sign or another. Also Mikael, the sun NEVER goes retrograde, so the situation you outlined has never happened. At least not until the sun stands still in the sky and then appears to travel from West to East.
