Oh yeah? Based on what perspective? Howzabout compared to 65 years ago in the middle of World War II? What about if we compare the current situation to Europe in the 1300's during the height of the Black Plague? Or how about if we swapped stories with some ancient Roman citizens after the sacking of Rome by the Vandals? Or with some ancient Jews after the sacking of Jerusalem by the Romans?

Did they teach you in school about what the Aztecs did to their defeated enemies? Did they mention to you how the blood used to run down the pyramids as the Aztec priests cut living, beating hearts out of the chests of people lined up for sacrifice all day?

Did they mention in your school what hell Cortez and his crew of berserkers put those Aztecs through after they conquered them?

I could go on and on. I don't think the world is getting worse and worse. I think it's about the same as always--the nature of the problems besetting the human race is just different, not greater in number.

I'm torn on the issue, I am not sure if this earth is getting better, or worse.

There will be a pretty big change coming up in our planets cycle.

I believe Western society is putting too much emphasize on technology, ignoring the Universal Unity, and energy. More people are turning Atheist everyday. People are tuning out their natural telepathic abilities, their third eye, their connection with the Universe and Life it self.

I'll say this though, we may be more technically advanced than the east, but they definatly know alot more about the ways of the Universe than most of us.

Bl4ck, whether the world is getting worse really just depends on your perspective, so being torn is probably a good starting point.

And though I'm a big fan of Zen, let us not forget that the nation that is the modern seat of the Zen practice is the same one that wreaked atrocities on citizens of China and other Asian countries, and incidentally, bombed some ships and people all to hell on our own soil without provocation as well.

However your point about Western society's emphasis seems about right to me.

Actually, I really believe that there is a period of spirituality and enlightenment coming. Sylvia Browne has said this, and I'm not basing it solely on that, but the fact that I've personally seen more spiritually sound people in the past few years than I ahve in my whole life. And I think religious tolerance has began to make a breakthrough. Plus, look at all the indigo and crystal children that exist.... perhaps it should better be called "The Age of Enlightenment". :) I hope to see it in my lifetime.

I wouldn’t worry too much, when the world is at the brink of chaos and complete anarchy and dogs and cats are running wild and living in sin, a large asteroid or comet will impact the globe and cleanse the earth [IMG]

I don't know about getting worse and worse, I remember my mom crying and saying her rosary while my brother was in Vietnam. Back then the radios would announce the names of those who died while there from your area, and she would cry over kids she would know from the neighborhood who were friends of my older siblings,( and ate meals at our house) while praying she would never hear my brothers name. My brother came back safe, and is still alive today. Maybe I am old, but I dont think the world is getting worse but is going by faster and faster LOL

    IMHO:

Is it getting worse? Probably. But humanity has the most annoying cockroach-like ability to survive its own self-predicted, self-inflicted disasters.

And even when major world societies fall, society isn't destroyed but merely reborn somewhere else. The areas that are "third world" now used to be great cultural centers - born out of the fall of another area's greatness - and Western nations will one day be poor and humble, and a new great culture will arise somewhere else in the world.

Sorry if I'm sounding like a pretentiously optimistic history geek, it's just the way I see things. Cycles, trends, big picture and all that cal. ;)

So I've made a conclusion, this world - spiritually - IS getting better.

Things have been set in motion and the ball is moving, humanity as a whole is growing spiritually, no matter how little, it is growing for the better.
