    I need help!!!
I don't really do anything to make sure I have a good daily value of protein. I used to drink milk with every meal, because I frickin love milk. but that's only 24-40 grams... don't you need 50? I don't really ever go to lunch, simply because I don't like what they have. it's either meat, vegetables, or pasta. I just grab an orange and eat it in my dorm. The eggs there are mass-produced, and come from caged chickens. so I can't eat those for breakfast. dinner is kinda eh. typically I have a bowl of autum wheat with milk, that's 10- 15 grams of protein. I was just looking at a fingernail anlysis, and anything that indicated lack of protein, I had.
I only have a 1600 calorie diet... or at least it feels like it. no, I think I really do. I bought black beans and mozzerella cheese [16 grams in 1/4 cup!] But really, my parents paid good money for the food costs here, and I feel bad wasting it, and going out and buying my own food. But it seems as if that's the only way I can do it. All the food in the cafeteria is all processed, bleached [such as the pasta], or has preservatives. or a combonation of all three. I'll have a bagel and rasin bran for breakfast, pretty much nothing for lunch, and not much for dinner. I really don't want to get malnutritioned... because then my mom is gonna start screaming at me for being vegetarian and only using ethical animal products. because that gets in the way of me eating eggs.

    aah, what should I do?

I'm not a big sunflower seed person. I'd love to eat nuts.. well, I actually got a bag of mixed nuts today. but they're 12 ounces for $7. that's kinda ridiculous.
I tried eating walnuts, but those aren't very protein rich.

Crickets and mealworms are a good source of protein.
Im not a vegetarian so I cant really give you great assistance.

    PS .
I think your a bit to young to use this as a definitive way to see if you are deficient. Many different factors there. You could be absorbing other toxins that will also show in the finger nail. Im not saying you cant use it as a example but at this time, You are looking for things that are wrong that are not. Hypochondriacs do this. Your paranoia of what your parent thinks also helps influence this.

One of the nutrients found in walnuts, is arginine, an amino acid used by the body to produce nitric oxide. Walnuts also contain antioxidants and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid.

oh, I'm not basing my evidence off of that, it's just supporting it. because I definatly know I'm not geting enough protein.

I'll eat a grub while I'm at it.

oh, that's good. I'll make sure I keep eating walnuts.

just a notice for everyone: I just started taking vitamin b supplements, yay.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet and protein will NOT be an issue

Look up what a protein deficiency, kwashiorkor really is and just who actually gets it

Stop buying in. Stop listening to the people who talk trash, and realise the truth. You need a healthy balanced varied diet. THAT IS IT. Lots of veggies, lots of fruits, some grains and beans, nuts etc, mix it up. Youll be FINE. Trust me (a vegan whos not only alive but perfectly healthy and vibrant after 8 years)

Also if you feel youre not eating enough, eat more!

It makes me sad seeing that people believe they have to count grams of protein:(Its a lie, ok. And those standards are based on the whole eat a tonne of meat and barely anything else ideology. Its not the reality

Please, Im practically begging you to do some proper research that isnt a load of figures youre supposedly "supposed" to get. You are misinformed and wrong, and worrying yourself for nothing. You wont get a protein deficiency, please trust me

it is hard to eat a vegetarian ethical lifestyle while living in a dormitory. i remember those days.

sometimes you kind of have to suck it up and eat the processed things like pastas and such.

or get a hot pot and dry beans and rice and invest in a few spices. you can soak the beans in any kind of container overnight, stick them, the beans and rice, and some spices in the hot pot, turn it on low, and go to classes. come back, and you have dinner. :)

    Thank you SO much.
see, I'm being a dumb 15 year old again :D

I do agree with you on that whole how much protein I should get thing. They expect me to have 50 grams of protein in one day?
See, this is why I was freaking out. I thought that number was ridiculous, because there's no possible way to get that much into you in one day... maybe I would have to eat a steak for dinner, but since I'm vegetarian, that's not gonna happen.

Because that's so much stuff I'd have to eat, and I couldn't keep track of that, or keep on buying things that are vegetarian.

I will definatley do some research.
    again, thanks.
I'm still going to stick with the beans and cheese... it's so good. =D

No problem:cheers2: Its all part and parcel of being veg/vegan Im afraid, you may have to get used to it:( Theres a LOT of misinformation out there, and a lot of people that expect you to live to standards invented by those promoting meateating or who are simply ignorant. You have to learn to filter, and only take the bits that are true

The good news is once you do this its really easy-you listen to your body, you eat balanced meals with loads of variety (and not too processed), try something new every once in a while, and make sure you get your vitmains and minerals (ironically the things you ARE likely to get deficiencies n if you dont eat fruit and veg) and everythings just fine

If youre underweight just eat more of what you usually do

As for protein, unless you live in an impoverished country or only eat one item a day its extremely doubtful this would be an issue as long as you live

If you listen to what a lot of people say, I should have been dead a long time ago:p And thats just silly. I rarely even get a cold

    Good luck:)

This is just my opinion please don't take offense.

Eat a steak and stop being overtly dramatic. Animals will die in the millions whether your a vegetarian or not.

    Animals are not people.

Even if they die in horrid conditions they still die in ignorance blissful or other wise.

You only live your life once, why not live it to the fullest?

If being a vegetarian is threatening your life doesn't that tell you that there is something wrong with it?

while I'm trying to see how a 15 year old is in a dorm (I'm missing something here) I know that even in that situation you can eat reasonably healthily with mere supplementation. Peanut butter, a daily multi, a few cans of lentil soup... very simple changes.

i'm not sure if this is OP's situation or not, drumminmamma, but i was in a dormitory from age 10 up. i went to boarding school. they definitely didn't accommodate vegetarianism for me.

Ok, right. I'm saying she can buy the Pb and lentil soup. Eat what you can, then add something later (or earlier, I guess).

Honestly, if I were you I would stock up on vegan protein bars and just bring them with you and eat them when you see fit. Also there are these things called Betty Lou's spiriluna balls which last time I checked were vegan. They give you a good boost of vitamins and minerals and are popable. Other than that, man, just try to eat as much as you can and please stay healthy. There's a powder that's very expensive, but very effective called VEGA that you can mix with water and get a ton of vitamins and things like that. Good look man, hang in there.

well, being a vegetarian doesn't threaten your life.

That used, to be a case, I would only eat free- range meat, and I had no problem with it. But now I just don't like eating something that had a painful, terrifying, and ugly end to its life. if they had clams and shimp here, thats what I would eat, but they don't have those.

if you're vegetarian, then those animals don't even have to die/exist. it's better for our planet aswell.

    I love animals

There's such thing as boarding schools, dorms don't only exist in colleges.

I do eat peanut butter... it's just a burden to eat hahaha. so goddamn annoying. I mainly use it for energy.

I think I'll stick with the beans and cheese for dinner.

Sorry I thought you said that,

"because I don't eat meat I may have a serious protein deficiency."

    Or something to that regard.

    My bad I guess.
