Apparently I have very little patience, because I've begun the natural dreading process at least 5 times now and I always brush it out after a month or so. Last night was 2 weeks since I last brushed and something possessed be to comb my hair out. Any tips to keep my mind off of it so my hair can just do its thing?

throw out all your combs so that you must take additional steps in order to brush them.

The best way to deal with this is to train your mind to stop thinking about your hair. Dreads take a long time to fully form. Months... If you can train your brain early, you'll be good for the long haul. That's the most zen way to deal with it.

    or.....

Get'em so you cant comb them out!

Perm each backombed section. Then, there's no going back without cutting your hair off. That's the quick and dirty way to deal with your problem.

just think of the damage you do to your hair with that serious brushing. most people are all about self preservation, and when it clicks in their mind that they are hurting themselves it can break a habit.

Thanks everyone, I think the problem is that there are so many mirrors and reflective surfaces around home and at school that I can't seem to get away from my hair. I'll make an extra effort to stay away from them starting now, appreciate all the comments :D

Timy... I totally know how you feel... I go to school in NYC and I have to walk 40 minutes everyday and pass by many many many store windows. I backcombed and everyday I am constantly checking my hair over and over and over. I have to really force myself to look away and stop worrying. It's been a huge help chit-chatting with people on here about any worries I have, so I don't worry and know it will turn out fine. I just need time. Keep strong, and I will too!

They're just there now, it took me maybe 8 days to get used to havin em on my head, helps that i keep getting compliments about them too.

I'm constantly playing with mine. It's impossible to control myself! I just love how they feel and what's going on up there.
