How old is too old?

I just found out that the guy i've had a crush on for a few months is 12 years older than me, even though he looks like 5-7 years older than me. Kinda thrown me off. But i still have feelings for him.

So I'm just wondering on other people's opinions on what their age difference limit is. Whether that be how many years older than yourself or how many years younger they can be for you to have a fling, date or relationship with. And do you have any exceptions or rules?

 

how we're suppose to know if he's "too old" if you don't tell us your age? you could be 32 and he could be 44.

i wasn't really asking directly if it was too old in my situation or not. More of a general curiousity about others.

But in answer to your question, I'm only 16, he's 29. Pretty much given up on the idea of anything happening.

 

oh sorry i misunderstood the topic... i have no problem, over 18 and under 30... usually i stick to my age range, i'll make some exceptions on over 30 depending on the guy.

There was some thing about halving the old person's age and adding seven years? I think it's meant to be "the perfect age", and it's probably balls, but I think it's basically meant to illustrate that the years make less difference as you get older. At the moment I'd go 5 years either side of my own age, but I can imagine that'll increase as I get older.

 

See, I've seen a lot of guys on-line who are my age and older saying that they'd go as young as 18... I dunno, for sex maybe, but generally, what would you have in common? I mean, I wouldn't fuck me aged 18. You change so much in your teenage/adolescent years, a year or two makes a huge amount of difference.

There was such a young man, 20 years old that I had fun with recently. The age spread there is 40 years but we both enjoyed the encounter. I have a grandson who is 20.

It is more a degree of attitude than of years. It is what people accept individually as a turn on. When I was in my 20s I went with a woman in her 40s, which is probably a good age spread for a young man and older woman.

as for a relationship, well i guess it would have to depend on maturity.. i see more mature queers than immature. so i can't see an issue being with someone 7-8 years younger than me.

 

Rhetorical question, I know, but I'm not. A lot of people take it as a given that every man wants to fuck guys who barely even have pubes, which is kinda sucky when they set you up with someone and really big them up as being "cute" and such.

Just my taste, of course, and I'm sure it's all relative and you'd probably consider me young, but I'm not particularly unusual in not liking really young, smooth guys. I've not got a fetish or anything, I just don't like bodies that don't have a story to tell, and the twinks tend to be kinda... generic, I guess? Like, if you've seen one 18 year old, you've seen em all, but once someone's into their twenties they've usually kinda taken control of their physique a bit.

For me, if it's much more than a one-nighter, I have to get on with the person. The nearer to my own age someone is, the more we're likely to have in common. That said, the younger ones usually are more up for plain sex, and less likely to be offended if you don't want to talk to them about whatever TV show they've decided defines them this week. Plus, the young guys... I mean... you can be terrible, and they don't even know!

But nah, honestly, I don't even get on with many gay guys my own age, to be honest. Lookswise I'm talking maybe 21-28 or something, but in terms of personality, age has never been a good indicator. There's a hell of a lot of 20, 30, 40 and 50 year olds out there who are as dumb and naïve and devoid of individuated personalty as any 15 year old.

 

The closest to this situation I've ever been was with a man who was eleven years older than me. It was couple hook-ups and that was it. I was 19 and he was 31. But as SelfControl mentioned, I don't think I would want anything more than just hooking up, granted I'm the younger one, I still feel as though I wouldn't have much to converse or relate with to someone more than 5 years older than me. Of course, there are always exceptions but I guess that is just a general rule I've created for myself.

I also think that for teens there is a limit for people younger - it is perverted.

 

Numerical age doesn't matter. What's important is that each party has whatever qualities the other is seeking. So long as the attraction is honest and mutual, there's no reason a relationship shouldn't take place.

 

I don't think age really matters. I mean if you love someone, then you love them no matter how old or young they are. Within legal boundaries of course. Haha.

 

Well yeah, obviously age shouldn't matter. But people have different personalities throughout their lives. Not long ago I met a guy and couldn't help thinking that, if he was a few years older, he'd probably be a damn good date. At the time, he was still young and hadn't really "blossomed" personality-wise.

Age may not inherently mean anything, but most of us change a lot throughout our lives, and I do believe that, at least for the most part, most of us are pretty different when we're 25 compared to when we're 18, and there's more difference then than between, say, 25 and 31. Don't get me wrong, I've met guys in their forties who really do seem like children in terms of maturity. But most of us do change, so I don't think age is something that's worth just ignoring.

I'm about to say something controversial again, so forgive me in advance if I step on someones toes.

But the Twink thing, it always seemed to me that was something tending towards the bi side. Guys and Girls look the closest in teen years, so to me anyway, going after a twink, more about going after a guy with a bodyshape more like a hot girl, but without all the *ahem* limitations.

For me, when I was a twink, Guys in there late 20s were the hottest, got to wait till you see a bit of man in there. But I, like a fair amount of gay guys and a LOT of girls had certain daddy issues, not so much about our dads, but guys around our dads age. Some guys just simply get hotter as they get older, not so much about it being in a cute way, but more about it being in a studly way.

Then you have the 'last man standing' thing, something which straight guys seem in the dark about, have no clue, in regards to girls their own age. Its not so much that a guy in his 60s might look all that hot, but compared to every other guy in his 60s he does. For some girls, that means good genes, for longer lasting/healthy sons, For some of us gay guys it means hanging out with a guy thats clearly more studly than 95% of his age range

My point: Yes there are some of us that would find a small percentage of guys much older than us hot
