"...to get your hair like that?" <----- Anyone else get this question all the time? Sometimes I think I'll go crazy with it! How do I explain it? Do I just brush it off? Do I find some way to eloquently, in a few words, say that there was no point at which I saw myself and said "Wow, my dreads are done! Now they do not have to change or grow or evolve one iota!" When people ask, my responses vary. Mostly I just say "six years!" (Guess how long I said it took me last year?) Sometimes I just roll my eyes at it (totally involuntary depending on how my day's gone) and every once in a while it'll get me on a fucking diatribe like this one. Do you guys constantly get this question? What do you say when you do?
YES. I patiently explain that I have to wake up at 4AM every morning and painstakingly section out my hair then make thousands of little knots then curl the ends into cute little curly kews. Usually it takes around 4 hours. Then after a hard day I take a shower and wash them all out.
i get that question almost weekly. i normally just say "a long time" and by their response to that, you can noramlly tell whether they truly want to know about you and your hair or are just tryign to be annoying. i don't mind talking to people about it if they really want to hear, but if not, just a waste of breath
lol, good answers people! (Goat, you're such a smartass! :tongue I swear, putting this thread out must have given me some sort of weird vibe... Yesterday we went into Nashville to the dog park and drum circle, and I swear four different people came over and asked me this question. It was all I could do to keep from cracking up the second it came out of their mouths.
the same thing happened to me the day after i answered this post... i smiled inside and gave her the smartass answer i gave you... fortunetely she knew I was joking.
