you know, one that suits them? browsing online doesn't seem quite right to me. i was given a deck out of the blue, and while i'm drawn to tarot, i'm totally unmoved by my deck.
go to a new age store, and look at each tarot deck , and they usually display the cards out so you can see the artwork. pick one that is easy to interpret to you by symbolism of the picture, or if your magnetically drawn to a certain kind.
yeah, i figured so. i thought that would be the way to go. i'm typically a gut instinct person. but it's kinda funny. thus far people have judged me by my appearance and have been terribly unhelpful, or downright blocking. i figured if i was getting so much static, that wasn't the place to be.
i've always been pretty good with the intuition and interpretation, i feel that tarot would help me focus my natural instincts. it's gonna be interesting finding the right place for researching the right deck. lol. so complicated...
my best friend has robin wood, and she likes it http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/robin-wood/ i have haindl and i like it, it has great artwork and i know for a fact that it has 2 books that you can buy for references and spreads, it really explains the depth of tarot reading. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/haindl/ rider waite is very popular and easy, alot of ppl use that. i think thats what my old roomate used, and she picked it up quick and was a bad ass tarot reader. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/rider-waite/
i have the rider-waite deck. i just doesn't inspire me at all. there's a russian deck that i want, i think. i'll have to handle it to see if it fits.
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/list.shtml should give you some ideas. Man, that Gilded Tarot deck looks awesome, as is the tarot of dreams. http://www.astroamerica.com/t-gilded.html Quest isn't too bad, either. http://www.isisbooks.com/tarot.asp I've always enjoyed the colourful Connolly, http://www.isisbooks.com/tarot/t0880794372.asp Between those two sites and switching between them to see more cards you should get a good feeling as to which ones you might like. Another site: http://www.astroamerica.com/t-menu.html The Tarot of Dreams cost $83. Look at the pics (wow!) here: http://www.aeclectic.net/cgi/buyframe.cgi?type=deck&id=3692
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/sacred-circle/ is my deck, I love it. Adore it, it's so beautiful and I've always read well with it. I just wandered into a store one day and looked through all the decks they had on display. They had about a dozen samples out (the whole deck there, unpackaged, but chained together so they dont' get lost/stolen) and I got to handle a bunch.... I just liked the sacred circle one the best, it just seemed right to me.
I was looking at the Sacred Circle. It looks promising. What I don't like about the Quest deck is the Stones (Pentecles) suit. I wanted something that actually depicted stones, like Stonehedge, Sedona, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, The Grand Tetons, Zion National Park, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, The Coloured Desert, Machu Picchu, The Man in the Mountain, The Pyramids, etc. What I find fascinating with the Conolly Deck is that I have come to associate certain people in my life with the pictured people. So when a certain card comes up I automatically make a conection with the personality type. Strange. So things like the X Swords has a picture of a woman but it's meaning in the Rider deck is totally different. So I have to find a deck that is more RWS and not a "tweaking". For awhile there I was into the esoteric decks, the Magick deck, the Stairs of Gold, the Hermetic deck. So I really miss the astrological symbolism in some decks. Maybe someone should come up with a deck that is soley devoted to astrology. In the Moon card, is that the Sun and Moon symbolised? or it is a full moon and a quarter moon? I'd like to see a spread that has new moons (aces?) quarter and full moons (10?) Exacttly where would a Sun eclipse fall into that? Maybe I should take that project up.
I hope this gets published, i WANT it dammit. Monument Tarot The Monument Tarot is a recently completed (but as yet unpublished) Tarot of 78 cards. Almost all of the major characters in the beautiful cards are from photographs of funeral and graveyard monuments in the Chicago area. its gorgeous, im sure he'll get it published, and then im gonna BUY it .
she has the rider-waite, i'm assuming that's the one she was given. yeah, that's the way to choose a deck. i've had a couple of decks given to me, and i never use either one of them, they just dont feel right. there are so many decks to choose from, and chances are that your local store isnt going to have as much of a selection as you can find online, but i dont think that you get the same kind of energy imprint unless you can actually handle the cards first.
I like the Rider-Waite. In fact thanks to the interest sparked in this thread I've ordered the Radiant Rider-Waite and the Gilded. I pulled out my Conolly deck last night and was startled at the non-descript symbolism of the World card. There's just certain cards that I cannot envision otherwise, like XIII with the dead bodies laying on the ground, XV with the chains, XX symbolisng Resurrection, etc. Now when I look at the Conolly and use my book, "Tarot Made Easy," by Nancy Garen, I see contradictions. I guess I'm too much into the numerical and astrological symbolism and tend to let my pschic side take over in certain areas. *** For those that want to see the whole decks, http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=17948 , gives links.
the store where I bought mine and was able to handle a few different decks was listed under "metaphysical supplies" in the yellow pages, so maybe you can find something in your area too. I mean, if Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has a couple places to shop at, bigger cities will have more, logically speaking
durango: Population 2000: 13,922 Saskatoon: Population (1999): City 211,005 Metro 230,000 lol. i think saskatoon's a bit bigger than durango. though denver is only 8 hours away. still we've got hippies hereabouts, i'm sure they need to go somewhere for supplies...
oh, heh, I know nothing about american cities/towns, I just assume that like 90% of them are larger than here. Road trip! As long as you're ok for it, it won't make you sick or anything, it'd be a nice excuse to get out for a while. Maybe not so far as denver necessarily, but to someplace with a nifty store
