what do you like? typing, pencil & paper, pen & paper, other..? and what kind of ink? typing something like an idea or a song on the computer makes me feel like im just going through the motions and not really doing anything, and pencils get dull after a while... and when i type something i cant carry it around with me like i could my notebook(s). pens for me. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/images/icons/newicons/icon14.gif usually black, only becuase my favourite and only blue one ran out of ink a while ago.
For an actual full-on poject, it has to be on the computer, for me. I can type far faster than I can write, for one. I also edit constantly, trying for the right words, the right rhythm... there isn't enough space on the paper! I got a wonderful tool out of "Bird by Bird," by Anne Lamont for jotting down ideas: index cards. I keep a bunch of them in my purse, my glove box, on my desk, and in the kitchen. Once an idea is jotted on one, I put it in the box on my desk, or, if its relevant to a current project, I tack it to my wall. They're good to look at when I'm feeling blocked.
I organise my projects with the computer or use the computer if I want the pace to be very fast. Otherwise I'll use an A5 spiralbound notebook with a blue Parker Fountain pen. I find different formats work for different things, A3 art paper is good for decribing a landscape because you have such a great sensation of space when working with A3. A5 is great for quick idea. A4 is perfect for dialog. Biro is good for a quick rythym and pencil forces you to slow it down. I find A5 with fountain good because it's a great allrounder. Blessings Sebbi
i use my nice yellow lamy fountain pen that has this awesome black nib. so nice and just any paper or if im at school just any pen and any paper wil work arnar
I tend to write a lot of my poetry in long skinny columns on my website, but for songs, I like my little spiral notebooks. I use this 20 year old Bic pen thats flourescent pink/orange and it's black and bleeds a lot. ahah. If I'm in my studio writing, I normally use my typewriter though. It's seafoam green and really little.
I generally type, for ease of editing. Though if it's a difficult scene I'll revert back to paper & pen (lined paper, and black ballpoint pen)
I like to type, for the editing factor also. But I jot down ideas and pieces of writing on random bits of paper then gather them all up every now and then and type them out so I don't lose them.
It depends where I am, how I feel, and what my state of mind is. If I'm hopped up on something and get a sudden surge of creative energy I'll definitely write it down with a pen or pencil, can't stand typing with a brain full of drugs. I'll use a pen or pencil if a computer isn't handy as well, but I usually like to type things up in Wordpad. I like the simplicity of the program, and putting things on my computer keeps it safe from the public eye.
I am only 32, but when I started writing, there were no computers. Then there was the Vic20, the Commadore64 and then bang, the Mac. But I could never afford a computer. Now I can never go back to writing on paper. Editing otherwise is too daunting, and being able to shift paragraphs around and insert chapters and otherwise reconfigure wherever I need to is an amazing blessing. We are so lucky. I'm generally somewhat of a Luddite, but I will not give up my laptop. It is ancient, I think it's a 486 (which is 466 more than the Vic20) and cant handle more than Win95, but all it has on it is Word and solataire... but pen and paper are handy to have around to jot down ideas wherever you are. I use a spiral notebook out of habit now, but I actually started that habit when I was a teenager because I heard that's what Jim Morrison used...Almost embarressed to say that. And I prefer the cheap Bic clear pens. Black. I hate Papermate. what a waste of plastic...
I get the best of both worlds: I do pre-writing/planning/ideas/character sketches in a notebook with a pen, so as to feel more like a human, and then when I feel ready to write the real thing I go on the computer, for the editing/speed factor.
dude comp all the way...i'm like an addict, we hve a tv next to the comp and sometime i just come in here to watch tv even though its only like thirteen inches and theres a big one in the living room with couches, just cause i like the environment.
Computer...I can't read my handwritting in large quantities, and it's much faster for me to type! I prefer my laptop, just so I can go write outside or anywhere!
Paper and pen. Almost always. Whenever I have to hand in typed essays, I write them on paper first, then type them out.
I love pens! It's official. I can't get enough of them, their nice fluid movements, and especially their teeny-tiny points. Pencils make me sick. I can't stand that goddamn scratching noise and feeling. UGH!
