It's really hard for me to understand how anyone could follow astrology or take it seriously. It seems to work by giving people a pretty vague description of a personality/physical type... so people can say 'wow, I AM smart' or 'wow, I DO hate being poor' or 'wow, I AM quiet sometimes'... or even 'yeah, I AM hot'. But then if these descriptions don't match, there's always this 'moon sign' thing where 'well, this doesn't describe me at all... but wait, maybe it's because my moon sign is different!'... or then there are other parts to it where basically you're just a normal person with heaps of different sides to them. And you end up growing more and more and more obsessed with yourself and giving control of your actions/lifestyle over to some buddy girl with a telescope or whatever until finally everything that they say you are fits-- because that's the image you have of yourself. I'm just saying...
I think astrology is more about the power of suggestion. After all, we are all each the creators of our own universes. An example; you wake up one day, shower, eat a good breakfest, shave, dress up well, you see yourself in the mirror and think, "Man, I look really good today!" You go out and have a great day and you feel really good all day long because your pumped and confident. Someone could come along and say something like, "That's an ugly tie," but you don't care because you KNOW you look good. If I read some astrology that tells me not to over invest in any relationships within the next week, yes it is vague, but it is the suggestion to be mindful of your interactions with others. Putting you more in control of your life's situations. If it is suggested that someone is ugly, that person may have a slight complex and think they're ugly. If they're told they're good looking, they'll think they're good looking. Many people like to think they aren't influenced in this way, but all human beings are very impressionable creatures.
At rest the fluids in our bodies are tugged by the gravitational interplay between earth and moon. Our skins are irradiated by the sun passing overhead. Our bodies are tuned to a circadian rhythm. There is a vibrational nature to the world. Each thing has a vibrational signature or tone. The word tone comes from the Greek tonos or stretching. No matter what applications astrology may or may not have, it is the mapping of subtle gravitational intersections, the positioning of planets.
It's clear from what you are saying that you don't know anything about the subject you are criticizing. Just saying.
I think "readings" you see in the newspapers are vague and could apply to anybody. But, the more indepth and personal "readings" you can get are probably more insightful.
This... I see a tendency for many to try to convert others into ascribing to their "logic" as well... kind of like expressing disbelief that others can believe any differently from them.
The more you study astrology, and apply it even to you...you will discover it works. That is why people follow astrology, take it seriously, and by golly, some even make a living at it. Now if you have an unstable invidividual obsessed with themselves (must ususally are), they can use astrology as a crutch but it will be something else if not astrology. It can provide insight and answers to those that have a questing, open (and dare I say intelligent) mind.
Yes i agree with that....... I cant believe how accurate horoscopes can be!! Its kind of disturbing, like the universe has been written and THERE ISNT ANYTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT! How would be people know things IN THE FUTURE if they werent already SET IN STONE and somewhere they can access the information........ One day my cousin came up to my house to visit,I read his horoscope for that day (A saturady) and it said something to the affect "Dont get anyones consent just take off" AND THATS WHAT HE DID!! (He didnt tell his mom or anyone he was coming up,he just came up) Its really quite fascinating!
The lunar force is actually a very weak tidal force. A mother holding her child "will exert 12 million times as much tidal force on her child as the moon". Astronomer George O. Abell claims that a mosquito would exert more gravitational pull on your arm than the moon would.
Gravity is the weakest of all forces but it works on the grandest scale. Yes, you are pointing out economies of scale. Equal masses, of course, have the greatest overt affect on each other. Again regardless of application, astrology is the mapping of lines of force no matter how significant or insignificant that may seem.
This... Millions of people think that telepathicaly asking a 2000 year old man to remove an evil force from your body will allow you to live forever. Others think that if you crash planes into buildings, you will be given 40 virgins. Still others think that when you die, you might return to earth as a toad, or an eagle. The fact that some people think that the placment of the stars can give you insight into your life shouldn't really be that supprising.
I think it can be an opportunity to reflect on yourself and be mindful of situations and your actions. Honestly, I dont follow astrology to a T - but I also dont deny that it has truth. When it comes down to it, people should just believe what they want and do what they want. to quote the mamas and the papas "you gotta go where you wanna go, and do what you wanna do with whoever you wanna do it with"
I don't take astrology seriously but I started delving into it because its entertaining and fun. Along the way I started to notice that there is truth to certain things...Once I looked up the relationship compatibility with everyone I've ever dated, and it was spot-on with a lot of things. Of course, like you said, its easy to take a vague description and apply it to something to make it work for you. That is why I don't take it all that seriously...its just a fun hobby for me, and for most people I think. Out of everyone that is interested in astrology, its probably a very low percentage of those that take it completely seriously and treat it as absolute truth.
it's just as believable as religion, yet millions of people believe in that. Neither have much scientific evidence, and it's a case of when the shoe fits. Just let people have their fun with it.
i feel carl jung said it best when he compared each individual to a vintage of wine - the region the grapes are grown in, the climate, the acidity of the soil, the rainfall that year, etc. .....all these add up to make the uniqueness of each wine, and the same could be said of people and the stellar influences upon the time of their birth
yeah its not necessary to do that. just live, and enjoy the moment. stop analyzing everything. well said, sista/brotha. youre hip for sure.
the poster youre respondign to never said it was surprising that people can believe in astrology. theyh were simply saying why people believe in it.
I dont hold a lot of stock in horoscopes unless i am puttin the moves on a girl that totally does and then I am carl jung and carl fuckin' sagan all rolled up into one
