Heres an idea to store your CD's in. Back when we was kids we used to have these really well constructed 8 track tape boxes. LIttle padding and some leather or vinyl over the oustide..but you can find them in second hand shops if you keep your eye out and then just pull the dividers out with a pliers. You can find milk crates too keep your books in.

hippies don't have rooms, man... far out!!!!

I mean a room filled with stuff, talk about commercialism. The least you can do is take a crap out of the window, save water.

You're probably to young for this - but I attached all my album covers - Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf, Cream, Moody Blues and on and on to my walls. I then took florescent paint and put stars on the ceiling. A black light is always nice. Also and incense burner is nice. Psychedelic posters are a must.

I don't know how artistic you are, but some of the best pads that I saw were individual artistic statements. One thing that everybody I know did was to remove all the legs off their furniture. Everything was on the floor. People also used to work with papier mache: making huge lampshades was extremely popular. Not only were they made of different colours of papier mache, they also included sparkles and stickers. I knew a girl who made a huge collage of naked women. She said it's always nice to fantasize. I myself found a huge piece of cardboard that I painted black and then made an abstract out of it using papier mache and flourescent paint. Another common thing that people used were industrial wooden spools as tables and they would also be painted in different groovy colours. Here's a place where you can get a cheap black light: go to an industrial light fixture store and tell them that you're looking for a black lite to find cracks in ceramic pieces. They will sell you one about 18-24 inches long that is attached to an industrial light fixture. Use bottle caps that you have painted and string them together- then hang from the doorways. Just let your mind run wild. If you can't , you can hire me. I'm available for a cheap price. LOL.

I don't know how I could have forgotten this, but you can go to the Goodwill Store and buy yourself white sheets. Then the fun begins- tie dye them!!!!!
I had a friend who tie-dyed alot of sheets for himself and friends. One day he decided to tie dye a flat sheet and hang it on the wall as an artpeice. It became so popular that he started to make them and sell them. so, if you have any spare time on your hands........there's something that you can do with it. I re-read your original post, and I hope I'm wrong: but you're looking for ideas ----not just places to purchase stuff.

    PAX

If you happen to have one of these tie dyed wall hangings that came from the sixties , now you know where the idea originated.

    Short and sweat response.

    1. Lava lamps. About 4-5 is good.
    2. A few black lights
    3. Black light posters consisting of 1970s or 1960s bands. Or mushrooms, pot leaves, peace signs. Etc. Anything hippie like.
    4. Bean bag chairs. Futons. Hammocks.
    5. Bamboo blinds and door tapestries.
    6. Dream catchers.
    7. Organic stuff. Put a few baja hoodies throughout the room. Maybe some sort of bamboo cases.
    8. Milk crates are great for storing stuff. I have all my old vinyl albums in them.
    9. Incense, candles, anything relaxing.
    10. Bright/psychedelic colors.

That is essentially what my room consists of. I consider it a hippie pad. LOL. I hope this helps.

you have just created a fire hazard in this persons bedroom with numbers 1 and 2 and most real hippies would frown at that extravagant electricity use........1 good quality black light will light up a bedroom[and posters]...damn..if op is gonna use that much hydro...she may as well jusy grow some hydro lol

posters...we have a link to the left of the page for posters...some classics can be bought all over the place...this one was very popular in the late 60s early 70s

The room where I spend a lot of time has two walls of books and two walls of mostly windows and an outside door with panes of glass. There are silk panels from Laos over the door and some of the windows. Thangkas are hanging on the three interior doors, as well as Cambodian silk and Karen textiles. There are 30-40 photos on the walls and in the shelves and on the desk – I took most of them and all are of people, places, or scenes that I love. The desk is a primo table that I found and refinished and on it are the usual suspects: computer, printer, photos, Buddhist ritual items, and so on. Actually there are many Buddhist things in this room – vajras, ritual blades, cymbals, bells, images, beads, etc. The two main images (Tara and Kwan Yin) are both representations of incarnations of the same thing – mercy. There are several other Tara images, as well as images of the Buddha and a few Hindu images. There are many pieces of wood and rock that I’ve picked up backpacking (these are what someone else termed “trip toys”). Other stuff includes a lot of betel paraphernalia, a few pieces of mountaineering gear, random momentos, like empty Tabasco bottles from past times, and of course my good old Dearborn gas space heater.

(As Chapter13 noted above, the main thing is to put a hippie in it.)
