The House will take up hearings today on the radicalization of Muslim-Americans. Once again the republicans have taken fear and ignorance to use as a political tool - to persecute those who believe differently than them. Muslims are not white, not christian, often dress differently and worship differently - therefore they are dangerous and to be feared and, if possible, controlled.

Can anyone here say "Joe Macarthy". Once again right wing nuts want to crucify a segment of our society. Is internment next?

I don't use the word hate often - but I hate these bastards - spreaders of fear and intolerance. Where do they get their idea of "Who an American is?

What I love is how immune the tea party is to it's own bullshit and how every other word is either god or founding fathers to justify their actions. Like the NPR guy, that asshole O'Keefe makes another video, NPR guys says things that are for all observations completely true, he gets fired, O'Keefe gets paraded around FOX news as a hero for helping to ruin more lives. He already took down ACORN on a bunch of lies, they're trying their hardest to kill Planed Parenthood, and now they're going straight for the source, the news.

The sad thing is liberals have done the opposite at tea party protests, literally constantly, and it never makes head way because they just say it's fake or a liberal false flag and their supporters love it
Those Tea Partiers that threw change at the disabled guy and called him a leech? False Flag.
Tea Party sign with Obama as an African Witch Doctor? False Flag.
White Seperatist runs under Tea Party banner (and wins)? False Flag.
Tea Partiers scream abuse at passing blacks? False Flag.
Black congress people called "******" while passing by Tea Party protest? False Flag.
Tea Partiers verbally abuse Muslims raising funds for Women's Shelters? False Flag (but also "fuck them ragheads")

Also O'Keefe had felony charges for illegally wiretapping phones, but hey, he's rich, white and Republican, so he's still relevant for some reason.

That hearing is live right now on cspan3 if anyone cares to go beyond sensational characterizations of what may occur there.

The fact it is happening is sensational enough on its own, if King is really concerned about homegrown terrorism why is he not investigating the rise of far right militias or things like the KKK. How often is a congressman brought to tears by the testimony he's having to give to another congressman.(Boehner doesn't count, he can cry at anything)

All he is doing is feeding into the xenophobia in his base to perpetuate racism and boost his poll numbers. The same people that wanted this are probably the same people who held a protest yelling GO HOME RAGHEADS at a luncheon in Orange county to raise money for women's shelters.

Yes go home, go home to..........your Malibu beach houses?

didn't an american muslim try to blow up a plane, and then another one, a car bomb in nyc?

then the muslim shrink who went bezerk on the army base and started shooting everyone...i dunno if they ever figured out if that was due to political reasons or if he just snapped

i'm not saying the tea party is sane...just that islamic extremism is a problem

Didn't a right wing militia type blow up the Oklahoma federal building, go on numerous shooting sprees, breed numerous neo nazi and racial supremacist groups that have been linked to dozens of murders

Also the plane one was a Nigerian.

I'm not saying muslims are sane, I'm just saying domestic far-right white bread terrorism is a problem.

dude, domestic terrorism these days is from islamic extremists who get brainwashed by al qaeda propaganda more times than not. sorry to burst your "why cant all races and religions commit mass murder at equal proportions?!?!?!?!" bubble, but that's what's goin on in this day and age. to not confront it due to some misguided attempt at being not prejudiced (really, it'd just be dumb political correctness), is really kinda retarded.

i imagine there'll be some right wingers throwing out some ludicrous prejudiced ideas, but that's not to say islamic extremism isn't a problem, even here in the states.

do me a favor mad cap and stop trying to be clever and just present the facts plain. the shoe bomber was an american muslim. i don't know what his ethnicity was, but i think he was even white. does that make going after islamic extremist not a bad idea to you? 'cause some of them are white?

The fact that it is happening is sensationalized. I think the truth is usually somewhere between left and right. Why look at Muslim in particular? Because the recruiting of indigenous members is a tactic practiced by the groups that are devoted to these things, a response to an overtly announced and organized threat by people who identify with Islam on some level.

Of course it is less controversial and more to the point, scientific, to deal with radicalization in general but politicians are not necessarily scientists. Doesn't make it any less stupid but it makes it less sinister to consider the source.

Depends on which side you are on. As dramatic narrative it is potent at least.

Apparently you missed the shooting in Arizona, or the shooting of the holocaust musueum by an old neo-nazi last year, or Luke Helder in 2002 sending pipe bombs out in the mail because he was "denouncing government control", or the 2005 University of Oklahoma bombing, the religious(Christian) fanatics who were going to pipe bomb protesters at Jerry Falwell's funeral and none of this addresses the fact attacks that could be considered "terrorist" are near irrelevant to the god knows how many personal attacks on people that are fueled by hate groups every single year, month, week and day.

In fact, every successful attack of any nature in the US that has killed several people has been by by home grown, normally white, generally Christian, backrounds

oh hey you want facts too, last bomber was a Nigerian citizen and the shoe bomber was born and bred in England.
Seriously don't call for facts when you get a fact wrong that a 3 second google search of him could've answered.

It's asinine this is happening right now given the xenophobic mood of some people like 2 weeks ago when the same people who voted these people into office were holding that protest against raising funds for women's shelters with giant signs that say GO HOME RAGHEADS. If your goal is to try to stop terrorism, than focusing and trying to scapegoat one group is completely irrelevant to the issue at hand and shows what your real goals are.

i imagine if you found a chart that showed mass murder and attempted mass murder over the past 10 years in america, muslim extremism would be responsible for a disproportionately large number in recent years. people really argue muslim extremism isn't an actual problem and that it's just a right wing conspiracy? really?

Again - the reason these hearing are being held is because they are different - they look different, worship different, dress different. Therefore they are to be feared - looked at differently - they are not really decent humans - they are Muslims. How about American - Japanese in 1942 - same thing.
How about black people in 1961 Birmingham - same thing.
If there are some nut jobs, or angry people, misguided people within those who call themselves Muslim, then investigate them - along with para- military groups, Christian fundamentalist, white supremacist.
But no - let's focus on Muslims because then we can make people afraid and stir up a few more votes.
If someone suspected to be planning a crime - investigate it!! Because they're skin is different is no reason to condemn a whole group. For Christ sake - they are people just like you, just like me.
But we are to be afraid, very afraid.
Hate the rag heads!! An while you're at it - when you need to feel better about yourselves - hate the Jew too, and the niggers, and the chinks and the krauts and the spicks.
    Sad - so sad.

I bet you it would actually be white serial killers. The US has over 3/4 of the world's serial killers and the extreme vast majority are white. I mean when was the last time you saw a shooting spree that wasn't done by a middle aged white man. In fact the only one I can think of who wasn't was the D.C. sniper, try again. Like did you read all the attacks I posted.

Or you know I posted my information, all attacks are well documented on the internet, you can try looking them up and be disappointed when you realize most of them are not radical Muslims because they're not Muslims period.

I imagine - isn't that revealing. No proof - but "I imagine". That is just what people do - imagine

What you imagine and what is, could be entirely different things. This is not a substantive argument without the documentation to support your imagination.
