Horary astrology is the technique of answering specific questions. What makes this different than the astrology most people think of today, you don't use the person's birth time or place. Instead, a question is asked to the astrologer, and the astrologer draws up the chart for the time the question was understood and the place where the astrologer received it. For instance, if a person asks a question in New York at noon today, and the astrologer receives the question 2 hours later in LA, then the chart is drawn up for 11:00am Los Angeles. Until the birth of modern astrology (19th century or so), horary was the most popular form of astrology. The reason is simple. People wanted answers, and most didn't know their birth times or even dates. Because of this, we have numerous very specific instructions on how to do it. Even more so than natal astrology. It's also faster to do since you only need to concentrate on a specific subject. I can't say it's easy though, since it's easy to get tripped up. There are also a lot of horary-specific rules that don't apply to natal astrology at all. In my experience, it's better to use the outer planets sparingly of at all. It's also better to use the traditional house meanings since modern astrology is more new age and has a more psychological bent. Horary concentrates on concrete meanings, so mixing psychology and new age tends to muddy the waters. For example, the 8th house in traditional astrology isn't sex. It's death. If someone has a question about sex, I look at the 5th house. The 2nd isn't "what you value" but instead means money and possessions. It makes things clearer. The kinds of appropriate questions for horary most importantly need to have a concrete conclusion. A good question could be "will I get the job I just applied for". A bad question could be "will I ever be happy" since there is no finite conclusion to this. Most older horary astrologers also said the question needs to be VERY important to the person asking it. For instance unless you're Brittany Spears, you can't ask how her marriage is doing. This came up a lot during the last presidential election. Unless you were Obama or McCain, the question isn't valid. There are a few other restrictions. Anyway this is a cool avenue for study, and something that modern astrology mostly ignores or is unaware of.
Enlil6 are you able to answer a Horary question? If so my question is; What was the secret the two boys had? Thanks
This by itself isn't a valid horary question. First of all your stake in the question isn't clear. I wouldn't even know if it involves you. Second, the question is vague. Who are the boys? What are they to you? What's the issue? Are you just paranoid? Basically if you came to me as a client I couldn't accept this.
As I understand it to be Horary Astrology is asking a question. I thought I had asked a specific question. Obviously not. So I will turn the question around. What was the secret the two boys had between them that caused the problem of them to go missing? No I am not paranoid, I am a friend to one of the boy's sister, and the two 14 year old boys have been missing for 28 years. I did not know the boys, meaning I am a stranger to them.
Sorry I wasn't actually saying YOU were paranoid. I was just saying that I didn't know the intent of the question. Technically this still isn't valid and here's why. One of the main considerations of every horary question is querent - that is the person asking the question. The querent is signified by the 1st house. The second consideration is the questited - that is the significator of the thing that is asked. At its most basic level, a horary question is finding the connection or lack thereof between the querent and the quesited. I don't want to minimize your feelings about the situation, but I also want to be honest about the limitations of horary. Not just any question will do. Basically I (and most horary astrologers) will reject any question that: Is not asked by a participant in the matter (i.e. asking on behalf of someone) - an exception being a mother asking for her children. Is illegal or unethical Is something that I feel isn't sincere In your case, I don't think don't the question is illegal or unethical, and I'm pretty sure you're sincere. But, you're asking on behalf of someone, so even if I tried to answer it, it probably wouldn't be correct.
