McCain promised lower gas prices and an economic recovery if we expand offshore drilling, good news, he got his wish. He even went so far as to blame the loss of manufacturing and auto industry jobs on Obama because he opposed off shore drilling, his slogan was no drilling, no recovery. We should see a sharp drop in gas prices and unemployment soon, hooray!!! The recovery is on the way!!!! The world is saved!!! Democrats to let offshore drilling ban expire By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer 27 minutes ago WASHINGTON - Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in a months-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080924/ap_on_go_co/offshore_drilling
18 billion barrels of domestic oil that should be available within the next decade (2-3 years off of Floridas coast) sure can't hurt. It's obvious the switch to alternative fuels will not happen overnight, so the less oil we have to import in the mean time the better. It will also help domestic job opportunities. There are some excellent job opportunities opening up in the oil exploration field right now also. If you don't mind living away from home, a guy can make a damn good salary.
Are you in the right thread? I'm not following you. Your link was a news story about how the democrats allowed an offshore drilling ban to expire. As far as I know all this is going to do is allow oil reserves that were previously off limits to be tapped, in turn increasing the amount of available domestic oil. Is there more I should know about?
How long it will take for that oil to make a difference in the prices. Why the oil companies are so big on leasing this new land when they still haven't explored the leases they have now. How would our refineries cope with a new supply of oil. Find that out.
It is estimated that oil from areas off the coast of Florida could be online in 2-3 years. You need to be a little more specific. First of all there are production leases, and there are exploration leases. There are many active leases that have little or no oil. Not every lease is guaranteed to have oil, which is why the areas that are leased are so large. The same way they cope with the current supply. The idea of drilling for domestic oil is to reduce the dependancy on foreign supply. Let's say for example that newl domestic oil production yields 1.66 million barrels a day. This would replace the 1.66 million barrels a day that is imported from Saudi Arabia.
Out of curiosity, who here opposes offshore drilling? Who agrees? Seems to me that many democrats oppose the idea, without having a solid explanation as to why.
this thread confuses me. don't know if people are serious or sarcastic.... so i give up . who cares. I oppose off shore drilling anyway
I'm dead set against off shore or ANWR drilling. Like Higher said it wil gain us almost nil and we will risk destroying areas that need to be protected. It's another Mcbush gift to the same kind of greedy bastards that created our economic mess. Less regulations is bullshit. These sorryass MoFo's will rape and plunder anything for a buck and after they fuck it up they'll want the taxpayer to pay for the cleanup. I'm sick of this shit.
