Has anyone here had any experience with homeopathic remedies? Do you think they actually work, or that they're just a placebo? i've just started looking into homeopathy and am curious to hear from people that have used them.

I would say, sure they work. I have seen things, that normal medicine would call miracles, they happened due to the homeopathic treatment.
One reason the remedies often don't work as they should, is that it takes a lot of experience and knowledge of the person that is treated. There are so many substances that have similar areas where they can work, and it often requires a long time deciding for or a against a certain one.

Then there are a lot of influeces which can, but don't necessarily have to go in the way of a remedy to be working correctly. Most of these things are a generel unhealthy lifestyle (nicotine, caffeine, and other toxins). So a decission for a homeopthic treatment usually should go hand in hand with a decission for a healthier lifestyle.

By the way, I have been treated with homeopthics all my life. I'd call myself a very healthy person, barely get colds, my last infection involving a fever was in 12th grade... I think a big part of that is thanks to this form of treatment, since my body knows how to fight things on it's own.

edit: there are basically two schools of homeopathy: the complex homeopathy which works with mixtures of different remedies, and they are only used symthom based, which was usually NOT the intention of the developper of homeopathy. The other school is called classical homeopathy, where the whole human is treated. This is the school that is directly after the developper Hahnemann. This is a holistic treatment, and an "examination" takes about 2 hours, sometimes more. There are some exceptions: For injuries, that are usually only body-linked (and not psychic) there are some remedies like Arnica, for everything that involves a hit, bleeding under the skin (the blue stains, can't remember the english word) this is something one should aalways have in the house ;-)

Homeopathic medicine is the biggest crock of shit. I had to write an unbiased research paper on the topic, which was very difficult, considering homeopathic medicine is the most ridiculous thing people have been convinced to spend their money on. It's all entirely based on the belief that a magical life energy flows through your body. Some remedies claim to fix you by shaping and massaging your magical energy fields (the practitioner literally never comes in physical contact with the patient, only holds his hands above and pretends to adjust this mysterious, invisible field). Others by poking the centers of your magical energy with needles. In alot of cases it becomes a last ditch effort to save ones own life when conventional(real) medicine can't save you from a terminal disease. Of course, it always ends up a waste of your money, and provides false hope.

The only benefit homeopathic medicine can have is the result of a placebo effect.

i'm sure it can work for some people.

things like depression and anxiety have been medically proven to cause illness. happy people are statistically healthier (the happieness could also be a product of the health). there are documented cases of people recovering remarkably well, from illnesses that were considered hopeless by every doctor, who claim to have spent their time and energy focusing on healing themselves.

i can also see how it woldn't be able to work for some people. gEo_tehaD, for example, probably wouldn't have a shot in hell. ...neither would i.

that's how i understand it, anyway.

They do work. I've tried some of them myself, anti-stress, anti-flu vaccine, anti-muscular fever... they're very good. You just need a good such doctor to prescribe them for you correctly.
