I am all the time called a hipster because of the glasses I wear, and the fact I like nerd culture ( My family has always been a sony family since I could remember) I also collect comic books, and am interested in the environment. People call me a hipster all the time and i take offense to this Hippies think everyone is equal, and are generally fun loving and peaceful, non materialistic in a sense ( everyones materialistic to a degree) They are non judgemental for the most part ( we all have our relapses when we lose our tempers or when on a subject we are passionate about) Hipsters are very judgemental. They are a type of elitist, and in general are just douchebags, and have taken some things form hippie culture such as being green and world peace , and steal things from other cultures and make them "cool" when really they are just assholes looking to be trendy. Hippies did and don't care about being trendy. Further more hipsters move on to different things once something becomes too main stream, where as me, once the hipsters move on, ima still read my comic books, still do my volunteering, still be about peace and love and human rights, still gonna wear all the clothes I like, and still wear my glasses, because I got them for 20 bucks at walmart before they became really popular, and I like superman...I thought they made me look like clark kent, and These types of frames are really the only ones that look good on my face
In what sense of the words? Some use that word for homosexual and bisexual and transexual peoples, and others just use it for douchebags. I have a friend who uses the word but not for gay people, and when he calls people faggots he isn't calling them gay he has a gay uncle and when people say im not gay when he calls them that hes all " you wish you could be as cool as my uncle faggot"
To point out the obvious, they are stereotypes and almost no one fits in only one stereotype. Not all people who look like a hipster (and are thus perceived as one by some) are for example elitist, you are already an example of this so it seems. So if you already aren't fitting the hipster stereotype perhaps a lot of those other hipsters do neither. If so called hippies would all easily perceive them as the typical 'faggot' hipster so to speak we would seem just as judgemental and elitist (and are so perhaps somewhat rigteously perceived as the real hipster douchebags)
Both senses. They typically behave like douche bags and dress like prissy little faggots. Then again, I use the word faggot pretty loosely.
When you have an argument with hetero males in general it is a very useful word to call them. There often is no other kind of word that pisses them off more
Generally I think the hipsters who actually like the fashion and cultural tend to be a bit friendlier. People who are doing it because it is a fashion are the one's who think they're elitist. I refuse to get angry over someone putting me in a box because that is there problem already.
LOL! Apparently this a subject you are really passionate about as those are some judgemental claims about hipsters.
I shouldn't go this...but....   anyways, fuck labels. all of them. even the "hippy" label (though I do feel your posting- to the OP... I know what you are getting at with it...)- only thing is when you said hippies don't care about trendy stuff. I'd have to say to that that it would depend on what is being considered a hippie... if it's basically what someone stands for -their viewpoints and how they live (which can and usually does involved some of the stereotypical, external stuff...)- then I agree. But the "hippies" that are usually younger and all about the tie dye and well, basically the trends and always talking about how awesome they are because they are a hippie- well, I find all that is VERY trendy. (to be fair to the type of ppl I am talking about- a lot of it sometimes has to just do with their age and they DO often have the ideals and grow out of the caring about the trendy part.. but it's like that with any "scene"... whatever that may be. Personally I hate labels. Best, (and ironically) the most hip thing to be is just yourself-even if that makes you nothing (no defined label) or a little of many things... (I remember when I was about 12 or 13.. one of my best friends n I took a trip with my mom and brother to the beach and I remember it like yesterday... me saying to my friend "let's be hippies" and lolz... we went out to some of the trendy beach shops n bought round john lennon glasses and bell bottoms and "keep truckin" and other patches for bags (anyone remember those patches??) and various other things...came back down to the beach blanket and told my mom we were hippies. wow... lol. and then I remember in high school.. freshman year so I was still very young, I got my first skateboard and the reason why I had wanted it wasn't so much because it seemed like it would be fun to skate (though it was, after I got over the frustration ... it was hard to master even an Ollie.. kick flip..basic stuff. eventually got things enough- never got GREAT though..), but because I wanted to hang out n smoke and skate with all the hot skater boys. Which I did end up doing. But, yea, those are the last times I can remember caring at all about a label.
I went through so many "label phases" growing up. I was a skater, a punk princess, a hip hop queen, and a raver. It wasn't until my early 20's that I learned to give labels the finger, and realized I was a little bit of all those things. I didn't have to fit in anyone's mold!
I don't think labels are all so bad as long as they are positive. so I have accepted many labels to describe myself because in my eyes I am who I am if one must ask then I am a hippie, redneck, punk, countryboy, gun toter, and I am a joker and in general an eccentric, I am who I am and that is who I always have been and will continue to be
I think a lot of people get unfairly labeled hipster when they're really just doing their thing. I know people who look the part but they're really cool people - smart, talented, funny, caring. And I know people who look the part but they're just rich kids that hang out at the cool bars and get wasted every night on daddy's dime. I think the basic moral of the story here is that you shouldn't judge people by the way they look and dress.
yea the only "label" I may have ever called myself after those things I mentioned in earlier post, is a raver...and that was only in describing to people what I DID.. my actions. Raver= Someone who goes to raves. Granted, back when I did go to raves all the time, the label "raver" (well, the way some people used it..making it all trendy), kind of annoyed me and I didn't use it anymore at all. But, yea, hopefully you know what I mean about the raver thing because elaborating on it any further (cause Im not sure I explained it well), will just be like talking in circles on it... oh...and yea, when it comes down to it... i'm a little bit of a lot of things all mixed into one bright big glowing star of awesomeness. :afro: (lil hip hop.. .lil raver.. lil punk... lil super dork.. lil super mom.. lil bit a rebel... lil bit a good girl.. lil party kid still.. lil intellectual idiot (lol)...lil hipster..lil hippie... lil beach bum.. lil nothing... lil everything. (A LOT of silly) (A LOT of awesome) :2thumbsup: seriously. i'm surprised he is taking this long. what's up w that?
I know I've already said this to you, but SERIOUSLY, we have so much in common. Except ya know, I'm a country girl. Yay for bright glowing stars of awesomeness!! :sunny:
Yes my friend at one point lol although it was less than 15 times due to money reasons, and now I prefer to stay clean until its legal
