im not really the best source for this, but since you've got nothing else yet ill chime in. theres not really a set diet for hippies, im sure many are vegetarian or vegan, but not all. for example Owsley Stanley (Bear - large acid producer in the 60's, part of the dead family - the dancing bear came from him, sound man for the dead), swears by his all meat diet. he claims to have only eaten meat no veggies or fruits or manufactered foods - only meat since the 60's. a good deal of hippies do follow an organic vegan lifestyle, but many more probably just follow a "normal diet" like other non-hipies. theres also the ppl that followed the dead around, and many phish followers, and ppl that attend festivals, that eat alot of "lot foods", which includes grilled cheese, veggie burritos, any type of burrito, and basically anything thats easy to make, cheap, and easy to carry, but mostly grilled cheese and veggie burritos is what i think of when i think of lot food. of course im sure the obvious you can think up yourself like "living off the land", and having your garden, and the fruits and vegetables that come along with that.

as for lavender, what do you mean do they use it? as a food? - they do use it - along with millions of other ppl for medicinal purposes, a fragrance, and for aesthetic reasons.

hope this helps, sorry i cant provide you with more info

It was reported that at one time, Ozzie Osbourne, bit the head of a bat. Not quite sure, if Ozzie ate the whole damn thing tho'. LoL.

Seriously, you pretty much ate and did whatever you wanted, unless of course, you happened to belong to groups that follow a strictly vegetarian diet, like the Hare Krishna's.

Flowers would be a perfect theme.
You can also make some marijuana spiked chocolate cake or cookies.
It can make your friends float. :)

I would advise against this as it seems like this paper is for a class. I'm not an opriginal hippie, but I think they were geared mostly toward natural foods. Is this for the hippies of the '60s or for the lifestyle for today?

Perhaps, she can offer the professor a bite of marijuana cake.
What better way to educate your class about the evils of the establishment's stupid war against a plant.

I thought hippies eat granola? lol

Actually, lavender can be used in cooking. Never thought of it as a hippie thing.

the space cake would be cool but I don't think they're gonna appreciate it at school.

So is there any specific drink (alcohol/non alcohol) that was populair in the 70's. How about absinthe?

Basically you'll want to cook a vegan organic meal. Which is the reason I only went vegetarian, simpler!!

Hi Schmeg. Hippies were/are not some exotic animal that has to have a certain diet! However, the leaning towards a diet that would create a more sustainable future, with limited impact on the earth, led many to explore vegetarian/ vegan/ wholefood/ rawfood eating plans. There is a great little book- "Diet for A Small Planet" by Frances Moore- Lapp ( I think that's how you spell it) that you may find helpful in your research. Blessings to you.
