Does anyone know a good online store or a store in NYC to buy 60's vintage clothing? I'm looking for very high end type gear - but all i can fine is thrift store style. Thanks! -Lana http://www.date-reviews.com
Exactly. Paying outragous prices for some patchwork skirt isn't going to make you cool. Want hippie clothing? Get a sewing machine and learn to sew. Why not just get stuff from the thrift store too? That would be a whole lot cheaper than finding some store online. Being a hippie isn't about dressing in "vintage" clothes, it's about love man.
you sure came to the wrong place for that one! hmmm... How much you willing to pay? I could whip up something "vintage" for ya! <high end type hippy clothes> talk about an oxymoron!!!
i buy my levis at thrift stores and give em my own touch with bleach, spray paint patches, and sharpies. I even have the entire lyrics to a perfect sonnet by bright eyes written on a pair of jeans. I LOVE JEAN-ETICS
if your looking for "high end hippy" clothes check out abercrombie and fitch....go ahead fit in. everyone else tries to.
I take it you are new to the hippie lifestyle, or you are just into the fashion part. I will be nice, and try to help you. First of all, there are several online stores for hippie clothes. The 2 best ones are probably http://www.hippieshop.com and http://www.gypsyrose.com . Also, check out the crafts section on here because many of the crafters on their have ebay auctions. Keep in mind: All of those options, as far as the clothes go, are handmade. Second, they are technicallly not "vintage", as my understanding of the word is that it means clothes made before 1980 or something like that... I don't know where you would find that, especially since this stuff is in high demand right now, it is probably nearly impossible to find. Best bet is to probably raid your parents closets... As far as high end stuff goes, the hand made stuff is probably your best option on QUALITY. It seems to me that what you are looking for though, is the "boho" look, rather than actual hippie clothes. The reason I say this is because of a few things you said: "I am looking for high end type gear" and "all i can fine is thrift store style". This is rather contradictory to hippie clothes, as it flows directly with the hippie lifestyle. As a result, much of the clothes are origional and hand-made, ecologically friendly, earthy or very brightly colored, political, spiritual, generally inexpensive and completely against all rules and laws of fashion. THE BOHO LOOK ON THE OTHER HAND IS: mass produced, often in sweat shops, are made by companies that rape the land, lack anything personal such as politics or sprituality, and are sold for ridiculously high prices. You can find that stuff at Aeropastle, Abercrombie, Hollister, Sears, Dillards, JC Penny, Wal-Mart, and all those places, but they are not hippie clothes. They are a fashion that will go out of style as soon as it came in.
my hippy dad tells me that in the 60ies they wore shitty old thrift shop clothes, so like if you want that vintage 60ies hippy look I guess your gonna need to shop for 40ies and 50ies clothes??????? anyways, hippy clothes aint hippy clothes if they aint made by yourself or a warm loving hippymama in her living room.
Lana, Suggestion: Think like you don't have a premanufactured solution to your clothing and gear needs; start to solve the questions that you see innovatively. Save and recycle what you might otherwise have discarded. Create your clothing and other gear so that it works for you. You might be surprized to find that others also really enjoy and find practical value in your innovations. Peace and Love, David .
Definitly learn how to make your own. I did and it's actually relly fun doing it. I actualy want to make patchwork clothing for a living some day. But seriously, the thing to do is to draw out a design you like and do your bestto make it...it may not be exactly how you wanted it...but it's part of the learning process, and you'll feel super good about yourself when you make something that is beautiful!
if ur a tru hippie then y the hell r u gonna spend a ton of money on "hippie clothes".......i can stand fakes like that
