HipForums should exile the assholes

Everytime I hear some asshole use "free speech" as a defense for hate speech and geniune stupidity, it makes me realize that they don't have a clue. Usually it's the only time they are for "free speech" -- when they can use it to hate and mock.

We have freedom in our society, but we also have responsibilities and laws (some of which are stupid, granted). We also have "free speech", but only a damn fool would believe anything goes.

We have laws against certain kinds of "speech" such as PERJURY, FALSE STATEMENTS, INCITING A RIOT, etc. and for damn good reasons.

HipForums is a free speech zone, but not a zone to be abused.

Certain elements of our membership should learn to voice their opinions minus racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. If you disagree, state it, but the general asshole attitude of a few members here just gives the place a bad name.

Why should one or two bad apples spoil this place? Skip is a lot more lenient than I would be. It's probably good that he is, because I would take all the assholes and smash them like little shit piles. WHERE ARE ALL THE HIP PEOPLE? THE HIPPIES?

Perhaps banning these people would be a little much, but the least we could do is to RECLAIM THE HIPFORUMS and bring it back to what it means to us.

 

I've noticed that there are quite a few war-mongers, hate-mongers, and neo-cons trolling about, making trouble, glorifying Bush and the war in Iraq. While I believe in free speech, some are going too far.

I tell you what Zoomie, I may get banned myself before it's over, because I am going to take the CHE GUEVARA approach to the haters.

I'm going to be in their face, in their grills and make life HELL for them here.

I am willing to sacrifice my membership here if it will help get some of the dicks out.

You make it sound like all and only pro-war/pro-Bush people on here are to blame. Surely there's nothing that goes too far about being a conservative and entering discussions from a conservative point of view?

Of course racists and flamers etc. should be banned immediately.

free speech is free speech. I'm sure if you asked them they'd express the same dislike about our peaceful friendly speech as well.

Aside from that, controlling what people say in any capacity isn't a good thing to start doing, who knows where it leads.

Plus, the world is full of hateful ignorant people. I think any reasonable person would expect that on a public site. Sure it sucks for use peaceful accepting people, but it's realistic. And learning to deal with these kind of people is part of learning to be more peaceful and accepting.

 

You give trolls their power by providing an audience for them. Without a response of any kind their game quickly becomes boring. Don't you realize that by becoming an asshole yourself you are playing right into their hands by lowering yourself to their level?

I understand the impulse to respond with anger- I've done that myself. At the end of the day I will conclude that by doing so I've accomplished absolutely nothing constructive.

 

Being an asshole to assholes only ruins the threads and forum. Ignore them, let moderators give them a few warnings and then eventually ban them. I don't see how trying to make life on this forum hell for them would make them leave. They would love your attempts.

 

I do agree its better to not evoke too much hate around eachother just for the sake of being annoying, but I do still believe in free speach on all points. Commnication is very, very important, and if you do not speak out everything you feel you might end up putting up, if a conflict is solved immidiatly because people talk it over, its a lot better.

Ofcourse I'm not for lying, but I am for the total freedom to express whatever thought you have, cencorship might fall in the hands of wrong people, and the wrong things may be cencured, and to be honest, I don't really think if you'd ban out the 'wrong' thoughts it'd be the same fun, people just wouldn't be able to say what they really think and that creates a false sense of wellbeing, personally.. I like truths.

Thats why I'm still for free speach.

I still agree with you in some way, I just don't think that not allowing free speach would make it a lot better.

So which is it, hippie issues or free speech, that you're complaining about?
One is an ideal based methodical capacity for expressive tolerance(free speech).
The other is a conceptual method through which to expressively communicate(hippie/culture).
Break it down fo meh and we could establish a real golden tabliture of expected conduct and behavoir.

far to often on here i see people(i am example A) get labeled asshole,etc. simply because there viewpoint differs from everyone else's or they put things bluntly instead of sugar coat it,etc.
personally a good discussion doesn't bother me.good thing cause probably 40 to 50 percent of what i read here i disagree with.
that doesn't change the fact that i enjoy interacting here,even if i do piss some folks off.
so i guess what im tryin to say is i could care less if some people get on your nerves,or anyone else's for that matter. an id say your taking words on your screen way to serious...

I agree that free speech should end where someone's right not to be verbally assaulted begins, but that's what we've got moderators for, and the "ignore" button can go a long way in such situations. I must confess I've responded to folks being assholes by being an asshole back and feeding the troll, but it's always best if you can do it with more subtlety and dignity than the other guy.

As for oppositional view points, bring it on, diversity is what keeps it real, it would be boring otherwise. We can't be honest with ourselves if we don't question ourselves.

 

Wait... so you don't like having your ideals challenged? The beauty of free speech is that it protects everything. You can hate gays as much as you like, or hate women, or niggers! It doesn't matter! I can type "******" because I have this free speech, how great is that? Isn't that freedom?

You cannot build the world around your ideals. You want hippies to come back? Hell, even hippies can be assholes. People have different opinions, which are derived out of a million social constructs. Do you really want to alienate an intellegent poster just because he was raised to believe in gender roles? Or ignore another contributing poster because he believes that war IS the answer? Humanity is so diverse, and that's what's beautiful in it. Implementing these little laws will not only limit "free speech", but completely destroy it.

Anyhow... talking about hippes and being positive and shit... you are the one that always seems to start these kinds of ranting threads. As I said before, I have no problem with you Libertine... but don't you think that these rants of yours make YOU sound a little like the "assholes" you describe?
