occasionally, I feel like nothing is real. I'm not to sure why, and its kind of hard to explain... Everything seems somewhat-dreamy and foggy and it is nearly impossible to focus, and I feel extremely tired yet unable to sleep. It comes and goes, it got extremely bad a few minutes ago but its starting to go away now as i type this.

Also, sometimes i see things that simply aren't there, or objects look like other objects... Last night was really bad, I thought a hanging light fixture above my head was a bird for some reason, and i kept thinking something was on/near the stairs and below my chair, and i constantly see things out of the corner of my eye certain days...

but it doesn't make sense, only certain days i feel like everything is dream-like/foggy and i can't focus, and same with the seeing things... it comes and goes

So, does anyone know why this is happening? or has anyone had similar experiences?

Also, it makes it nearly impossible for me to have a conversation with somebody, i have absolutely no expression or tone in my voice, and i feel like just being locked up alone in my room, its also very difficult to focus and concentrate, the only thinking i can do is deep/odd thinking

I think that sleep deprivation could certainly create the things that you have experienced

so trying to address the insomnia is maybe the root thing

avoiding sugar and caffeine might help you

there is a book called "curing insomnia naturally with chinese medicine" that you may want to check out

I think that you may be able to read parts for free on line on google books

you can get the book from bluepoppy.com, or maybe get it from your library through ilb

getting a half hour per day of gentle aerobic exercise, like a brisk walk, could help

meditating could help a lot. if you can sit in a chair or on the ground and just try to clear your mind for an hour everyday, that might help. you might also want to see a meditation instructor

I think that there is a place that gives free vipasana meditation lessons, but I don't know off hand

if these things don't work, feel free to post again and I can try to suggest some other things too

hope that things get better soon!

This could definitely be why, I normally only get 4-5 hours of sleep a night, and i'm 17 so i should be getting much more, i'll try getting some more sleep and see if that helps

True. Good sleep is very important. If you can't sleep because you think too much, you can try to write down all you thoughts on a piece of paper. Your problems won't go away, but you'll see that it will make you feel better. A long walk, at least one hour per day is a good idea too. It helped me.

you may have depersonalization/derealization, look it up.

it's caused by anxiety so just dont think about it and it'll fade away.

I was going to say something along these lines. Some of us remember your thread on having your stash found.

Don't think about it and it will fade away... Pretty loose and unhelpful advice there along with another invented condition to describe human behaviour. He doesn't have depersonalisation/derealisation he is experiencing it. Perhaps the problem could be that he hasn't thought about it enough? Or at least the answer could lay in doing that?

Out of interest, how much sleep do you think you should be getting? Do you experience any of the other symptoms of sleep deprivation? You seem to have placed this on sleep deprivation immediately, just the first thing that came along but sleep deprivation is not the question, the reason you are seeing and feeling this way is the question. It normally occurs to people when they are sleep deprived, it's not something you don't notice about yourself unless you are under extreme mental and physical pressure.

I swear you have a post that you copy and paste recommending chinese medicine and some other stuff. In all honesty a healthy lifestyle that you are describing is a big help to most of the problems we face nowadays, especially the psychological ones. A firm foundation to your health will increase the strength of the whole structure of your wellbeing.

You are describing self-hypnosis rather than meditating, in my view.

To the OP: Do you by any chance play video games, watch TV and films a lot, that sort of thing? Do you generally spend a lot of time looking at a screen or through one? By through one I mean like a window, whether it be when you're in a car or whatever. These things can dominate our minds in very strange ways, even producing the sort of behaviour that you're describing. Perhaps it is the fabric of your life itself that you must address. Self actualisation.

Didn't I say to take a look in the mirror?

Based on the small variety of symptoms that he has described??? That is a great example of jumping to conclusions. Has the OP taken any antibiotics lately? Does he experience any more of the symptoms of candida? I don't understand how you can think he has candida just because of those symptoms. If I told you that I am having trouble walking would you assume that I only have one leg?

I don't know, i assume i should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep? And i'm unsure of what the other symptoms of sleep deprivation are, i could look into it i suppose.

Actually, I do play quite a few video games, and spend a lot of time on the computer, possibly to much time.

I actually am on an antibiotic right now, Minocycline, its to stop and prevent some mild acne i have, its not necessary i suppose since my acne isn't really bad, but it keeps the little i have away and i got prescribed it so mine as well i thought. Why, do you think this could have something to do with it?

okay sorry, i know this is my 6th post in a row now, but im unsure of how to multi-quote different people which is why i did them all separate, anyways... I just thought i would add some more details, whenever this happens it basically really just feels like im "high" or stoned, even when i'm not... For example, I can just be walking and suddenly i will feel as if i'm completely stoned, its like my mind just leaves and i can't really think/communicate well, and i just feel tired and as if i'm in a dream...

It almost feels identical to weed, except for the increased sense of music, deep thinking, and wanting food lol... But it doesn't last to long, like i said it comes and goes... And that certain feeling doesn't come as often, usually i just feel real dream-like/foggy like right now... and it isn't fun, at all.. its somewhat depressing

EDIT: it also seems to make me a bit moody, i will just lash out and get mad at random... i normally never get mad, but just now for example my little brother came in and asked if he could use my computer mouse, i said yes and i didn't mind, but he was taking to long so unplugged it and tossed it and told him to hurry up and leave, i don't even know why... why would i care if he's taking to long? then he got mad because i did that so he kicked something then i just started yelling, normally i wouldn't do that, but as of right now i'm in this little dream-like state of mind and its frustrating

See a qualified medical person. Sounds like you might need some lab work to see if your system(or some part) is out of balance relative to vitamins ,minerals, ect. Front page story here today about a very young man that is coping with having had a stroke. You never know. With all due respect to others who have posted here--and as good as some of it was/is---don't try and get to the source of this yourself, with information from lay persons, such as we are.

Sounds like pretty common shit to anxiety/depression. Not hardcore depression, the kind that's common in life in general. Moody, dissociative, etc.

Someone wrote, 'don't think about it and it will pass,' a comment which someone else mocked.

In my experience, the feelings will go away once you find something to occupy your mind with. However it will come and go from time to time. Nothing to fear though, in my opinion.

I've experienced that and more. It goes away for awhile, once in awhile it'll come back. The more you experience it, the more used to it you get, the less it affects you.

It tends to be much worse when I've slept notibly poorly, or when I'm tired/stressed.

Don't fear it, just feel it, experience, and let it pass on its own, which it will.

Good advice, but i've been doing some research for the past hour or so now, and i am almost positive its derealization like Sheekle mentioned, i watched some videos of people that have it, they describe almost everything i feel, i have the symptoms, and i am even feeling it right now even, it probably started about 1-2 years ago and its been slowly happening more and more as time goes on, its caused by anxiety also like Sheekle said, but im unsure what would be causing this anxiety, i do get nervous quite often though, and unable to sleep because my mind is always clustered with worries and thoughts
