So hello there guys and girls, it's definitely been a while since I decided to pop my smelly self in for a visit So let me explain what appears to be happening. I backcombed my hair about 7 months ago now, as I'm sure many of you may know, and having not been using teh ebil wax. Was washing with Dr. Bronners lovely tea-tree goodness, but it tended to leave a lot of icky slime in my hair afterwards, so I switched back to using the last of my eww dreadheadhq shampoo, which seems to be a lot better at removing the stuff from my stuff. So here is the problem - if it is a problem at all; I have noticed that most of my hair is... well, hair. The top inch (maybe two) of hair near my scalp is all nice and dready, whereas the remaining 6-7 inches is just lovely long brown hair. Which sucks. I guess this isn't a problem if they're just going to lock up eventually, but I can pretty much swear that they were way more locked up than that before. Especially as I go to feel my dreadies that used to be there and now it is just hair ;( So I guess I was wondering; is this normal? Or should something be done about it. I would hate to have to wake up one day and discover myself with my normal hair again, yo. I don't have any photos (yet) but I'll try get some I guess :0 Thanks!
my vote is that it's normal for the ends to become loose. i certainly hope so, because mine are. i've heard they go through several stages of tightening and loosening.
Yeh, I've heard that, I just figured that because there was literally 8 inches or so of loose hair it could be a problem - although I guess I shall see, in due course
mine are 2 months and ive also got huuuuuuuuge bits of normal undready hair =[ i twisted & ripped a few to try and make them knotty again, but i dont think its really worked, so i shall just leave them also, youre from wakefield. i was there t'other week =]
Ah, what ever made you want to go there? And thanks yeh, I guess the general consensus is to keep washing and hope for the best yo
yeah its normal. everything your hair does is normal, there really is no standard for dreading because everyones hair is different. my hair locks slowly and i started short too. heres my hair at six months: (shutup amy ) and at 7 or 8 months, after twist and ripping most of the visible ones: if it really bothers you, and the hair is totally strait and knot-free, twist and ripping can help create knots that become sucked into the dread. the hair will dread on its own though (and probably look more awesome).
Ahhh well unlucky, I'm surprised you didn't get murdered by chavs And scatteredleaves thanks for the input, my hair kinda looks like the first pic you have there - except a bit less curly. I guess I'll just leave it Would anyone say that putting saltwater on would help at all?
hahaha i was only there for one night, in the shelter of a big hoose =D sometimes i mix sea salt in with the bicarb & tea tree when i wash, and it dries me out like theres no tomorrow. i dont even use that much =/ i wouldnt say it helps with knots
it sure does help tighten em and 5 inches undreaded is fairly normal since to dread naturaly ya need about 6 inches generaly to dread at all sometimes it will dread all the way to the tip or closer at lerast..but itrs pretty normal to hsve that 6 inches at the ends undreaded
I have that on a couple of dreads, and at 10 months a couple aren't as tight as the others :'( Try re-backcombing? If you waannt? With a little sea salt, might help em wake up and be lik eOMG WE WANT TO DREAD dadadada aDAA Sorry.. xD Salsa dreads
Yeh, I wasn't planning on rebackcombing as I have heard previously (mainly on this forum) that it can ruin the knots that are already there.
My dreads are are almost touching my shoulders, infact the ones at the back pretty much are , and i ahve just a little bit of hair left at the tips thts not dreaded, but ive heard that as soon as they start rubbing against my shouldrs as they get longer, that the ends will dread up nice and tight
I don't know if I've mentioned this before...but in addition to being the only person with positive elastic band experience...I also had some good re-backcombing experience. Ahem. *runs*
