I'm STILL bleeding, 4 weeks postpartum...My doc's not worried, but this morning, it started almost leaking down my leg... And everytime I alert a doc, they tell me it's a variation of normal... But I totally feel like something's not rright...and no one is listening to me.
Is it heavier than a period? Could it be related to your PCOS? Still spotting at this stage is common, but bright red blood, near to a period either means you are moving around too much, or need to see the doc or midwife. Take care, honey. You are really having a rough time. I wish I lived near you, baby.
Thanks, Maggie... I called the Group Health Nurse Line...Explained myself to her, including the facts that my medical history was NEVER taken, nor that of my family. That I have gyn issues. She said that if it doesn't get heavier, she wants me to have a checkup with a gyn on monday. If it gets heavier, I'm going in sometime this weekend. So, we'll see....And people wonder why I hate doctors.
I hope everything is OK. Ususally it is due to just doing too much. Around 3 weeks you start to feel better and try to take on the world, and your body goes, "Well, let's slow down a little." I bled like a stuck pig at 9 weeks with Moon and it was because I was finally getting out of the house, plus chasing a 2 year old around and getting up with newborn baby Moon.
Docs are horrible. You have to really assert yourself and then they think you're just a bitch. But keep pushing. If your body is telling you that something is wrong you should listen to it and insist that they do. Take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest. You should be fine. Kathi
I bled very heavily for 8 or 9 weeks after my first child was born. Mostly it was from overdoing things, doing too much, too soon. But I also think partially it was from the breastfeeding problems my uterus wasn't contracting and shrinking like it should have, and likely also from having the placenta forcibly removed from my uterine wall.
I'm not overdoing it. Most of the time, I'm just sitting at home rocking Moire and doing nothing more "heavy duty" than making a light salad or playing on the floor with her. So I know it's not from overdoing things. Mom says she saw the doc PULLING on the umbilical cord after the birth...But that's heresay, so I can't tell a medical professional that one...*grr*
Pulling the placenta could do it. Honey, you NEED to be seen about retained placenta. You have several of the symptoms. (Smack, it just occured to me......the milk problems, the bleeding ect.) It might be better to, if you can, see someone other than your original doctor. I have seen docs refuse to admit they left some placenta. Some docs are good, and honest and will take a look (they can use an ultrasound, if I am not mistaken, or even do some hormone tests, your progesterone will be too high) but some docs will just say, "That doesn't happen often." Hugs, sweetie. Damn, I wish I lived close to you. I wish Bridhid were here to weigh in on this. She's the expert, by far.
you could mention it to them when they examine you. have you passed any clots? that's a tell tale sign that things are no good. i bled bright red untill about 6weeks pp this last time.
I also bled until about 6 weeks PP, but I think what happened was once the bleeding stopped, a day later I got my period again. Mine was real heavy for the first 3-4 weeks, then it tappered off. Yeah, I'd definately go see someone! You know you body better than anyone else
there isnt anything to worry about after i had my son i bled for 3 months straight andi had to change the bed sheets every day due to all the blood coming out of me. if you really feel taht something is wrong call the docs office
I bled for about 8 weeks postpartum with my daughter, but the doctor said it was due to overworking (DH had to return to work the day we left the hospital & I had a newborn AND 4 year old with me.) Sounds like Maggie Sugar has a pretty good idea of what it might be. But for what it's worth, I know that the blood can "pool" within you while you're laying down, so it does all but run out when you first get up in the morning. Not a pretty thought, but normal nonetheless. ((((((((((hugs!!!))))))))) I sure hope you start feeling better soon! love, mom
I went to the doc's again. He did an ultrasound and didn't see anything but prescribed methergine tablets nonetheless because...he could be wrong. I'm glad he had faith in himself. geez.
i bled for a long time postpartum too, as did my mom. i'm a pcoser too, dunno if it's related, but i wasnt doing anything strenuous either. in retrospect, i think it was because of my messed hormones. didnt know i had pcos until my bub was a year old. i finally stopped bleeding around 8 wks pp, fwiw
yeah, i actually had issues with over supply and formilk/hindmilk imbalance, but was able to fix that, once i knew what it was. i breastfed for over 4 years.
