Hinduism has no need of wannabe's like you... Stay away... You already seem to have found your god and religion what more do you seek ? Go back to your worshiping your drug addled degenerate gods like Kurt Cobain
what the fuck is wrong with you guys...i'm experimenting with religions, ever tried something to see if you liked it? That's what i am doing, i'm not a fucking wantabe i'm just a soul that is searching for his place in this life. Is there anything wrong with that? I just wanted some information on hinduism..that is ALL. I hope that you don't deal with people in your daily life, like you dealt with me.
Sounds like you're more interested in finding something that validates your beliefs and lifestyles rather than just being prepared to learn, even at the expense of preconcieved notions. I'll answer you anyway. 1. Love everything as you love yourself. 2. The vedas by Sri Vyasa 3. Avoid all intoxicants. Religion is not a hobby or a game to participate in. It is an all-consuming way of being. To live religion you have to be willing to give up everything else for the truth you seek. Be that drugs, sex, food, friends, family, or you own ego.
man devin,, are you sending everyone else that basically mirrors what i have said in threads pm's like you do me???? n to think these pms from you are so hate filled,,,, n all yer doing is searching for where you belong.... keep on keepin on the way i see you goin n you will be one beat up lil punk ass in the asheville streets,,,, been there lived there so dont go tellin me i dunno bout there,,,, ... hope you eventually figger it out what it is you are searching for

P.S. Ty Bhaskar
1. Hinduism teaches reverence for nature and all life, not just human life. 2. Go to a bookstore and buy the simplest survey book on Hinduism you can find...something like "Hinduism for Idiots"...and I mean no insult by that, because an easy to read text will contain the basic knowledge that you need at this point, and will not be boringly academic. Personally, on any subject, I refer to whatever will answer a question, all the way from "For Idiots" to "For Ph.D's". Also, don't get caught up in one particular teacher's written works and philosophy until you have a working knowledge of the big picture and the differences in major Hindu schools of thought. 3. Hinduism is both a "religion" with traditional scriptures, stories, and philosophical concepts, and a complete way of life. If you just want to have intellectual knowledge and no more, it doesn't matter what you do. If you want to seek actual spiritual knowledge through the yogic path, all "psychedelic" drugs, natural or not, are strictly off-limits, not necessarily for "moral" reasons, but simply because they will impede the natural redevelpoment of dormant spiritual faculties. FYI, the correct term for "Hinduism" is Sanatana-dharma, which is generally translated from the original Sanskrit language as "eternal truth", "eternal religion", or "eternal duty".
Hey, Dev, it's all good. Hinduism doesn't so much have a set belief structure. It's really more just about your personal search. ~so, yeah, do what draws you to God. A lot of Hindu sects discourage drug use as distracting and harmful to the body, but as long as you are doing it for a positive reason,... just don't let the rules somebody else goes by stop you from being able to guide yourself. If you're looking for some kind of structure, there are a great variety of groups practising a huge range of variations of Hinduism. For a more personalized path (if what you're seeing doesn't suit you), what I suggest personally is that you take a read of the Bhagavad-Gita to answer some of the basic question. Nature is very often held in high reverence, but the reason why is something that you have to decide for yourself. Just remember what you're looking for and don't let anybody else's views of what that is make a big effect on you. It's all good, man. Feel the Loves, and grouve on... -Kharmic Seed
Wow, ty guys. I already knew some about hinduism cuz my friend aneshia is hindu, but she lives in Ny so i can't ask her anything. i really appriciate your guys helping me on my search
I hear ya spook, I however disagree with you, and think you are misguiding this young one. Hinduism, is another ism... It is a finger pointing towards the moon, the moon represents reality and the mystical experience of it, the one consciousness beyond time and space, yet in all time and space. Hinduism is not the only religion that points towards it, most religions do. "All religions lead to God" Neem Karoli Baba said. He is often considered both a guru and a hindu mystic, but he refuses to be idenitified with any religion. His spiritual method is to achieve a really advanced realization of the one consciousness was simply "ram ram ram ram ram ram" japa yoga! I admit I am a universal mystic, I learn from many different mystical traditions, I'm into tantra, yet most of practices and techniques come from yoga and hindu mysticism. I do meditation on the breathe 30 minutes during the day, my mantra throughout the day, I do beads. Neem karoli baba is my guru, and I will speak from that tradition. 1. Nature is just one of the aspects of the one consciousness, it teaches reverance for it no doubt. Neem Karoli Baba would say, "The light is everywhere!" 2. I would say if you want to understand hindu mysticism, read about some of its greatest mystics, Neem karoli Baba, Ramakrishna, Ananda Mayee Ma, Amma, Ramana Maharshi, and so on. (but you will see that these mystics talked about the universalness of all religions and so on... they are really religion specific I would say) You should also check out the yoga sutras, the bhagavad gita (ram dass's Living the Bhagavad Gita is a good companion for someone into psychedelic drugs like you... Ram Dass respects both the gita and psychedelic drugs as useful tools to realization of the one consciousness, he also recognizes the traps and limitations of both scripture and drugs. He supports the use of "psychedelic yoga" as a risky but viable path) 3. In the hippie bible, remember be here now, it reads "a mantra for taking dope OM SHIVA SHANKARA HARE HARE GANGA" This bible is approved by Neem Karoli Baba, it is his blessing the manifested it... he would often encourage some people to smoke hashish or ganja for shiva, and others he would discourage and say it is bad... for him It DEPENDS on the situation... he never taught a strict, stay away from that stuff approach. I do this mantra when I occassional trip or toke or whatever... any dope, it reminds me to get beyond the duality of "on drugs" and "off drugs" And to worship SHIVA, who is so into his own SHAKTI, and he can hold the SHAKTI that drugs provide and it doesn't effect his one pointedness of mind of GOD, the one consciousness. So taking drugs occassional, is a way to check how HERE NOW you are. If you are really HERE NOW, then drugs won't effect you... Thus the point is getting past the duality. You should BE HIGH, thus drugs has no impact of your high, and just come and go, while you are straight, and are able to function while on drugs... that is the ideal this type of practice aim for. There are plenty of hindu mystics in India that smoke chillums that contain hashish... others take psychedelics... there is the ancient soma in the vedas that was some kind of psychedelic. The use of drugs is all over Indian religion... and is only frowned out IN JEST, it just means don't get attached, and don't let it mess up your life, stay focused on god on the one consciousness. Psychedelic drugs are not off limits to a hindu mystic or any mystic and do not let anyone convince of this... They are useful, they aren't as useful as doing sadhana every moment, and getting the mind focused through devotion, meditation and so on... but to deny thier ability to help consciousness is very bad. "LSD is good for the world" - Neem Karoli Baba "LSD is like Christ in America" - Hari Das Baba, taught Ram Dass the techniques of the yoga sutras From the yoga sutras "Supernatural powers may be obtained either through birth, or by using drugs, or through (sacred) chants (mantra), or by ascetic disciplines (tapas), or from the superconscious state (samadhi). " Psychedelics not only allow one to sometime obtain siddhis or mental powers... but they can provide a glimpse into the one consciousness. Neem Karoli Baba did two heavy psychedelic trips and nothing happened to him because he was there... he said that psychedelics could give you a glimpse "have the darshan of christ" but you get kicked out... it is devotion towards god, mantra, meditation and so on, that help one be christ. Yet a visit to a saint, or having the darshan of christ is useful for developing practice... and Baba allowed ram dass to keep occassionally using psychedelic drugs. So I would say if you are inclined toward the psychedelic path, go for it... And don't define yourself as a hindu or whatever... because religions catagories seperate us even more. I would recommand the ultimate method to realize the one consciousness... THE HERE and NOW This will lead if you rest your mind on it, to a doorway deep within to beyond space and time... then you will experience the one consciousness that was always there waiting for you, that IS YOU, and that was ALL OF IT, all along. ONENESS!
Ganja...Me misguide someone? I suggested that he read an easy survey-type book and get a working background on Hinduism before becoming involved with the teachings of one person...I'll extend that to Hindu mysticism in general...poor advice? Regarding Drugs: No backing down...when it comes to mixing psychedelic drugs and spiritual sadhana, I'm as hardline as Mr. Campbell over in Christianity is about the Bible. Too many dead bodies and ruined lives along the sides of the path I've trod. Some references of my own...Srila Prabhupada called the visions generated by LSD outright "hallucinations", and often spoke disparagingly of the "ganja smokers" inhabiting Indian holy places, pretending to be sadhus. The English-born Vaisnava guru Sri Krishna Prem personally advised Timothy Leary against drug use of any kind...talk about pissing in the wind, but Krishna Prem felt it was his duty to do so. He began his spiritual path as a young man in his mid 20's and came to be renowned as a self-realized guru, writer, and commentator on Vedic scripture, without using drugs. Perhaps I'm seeing it through the perspective of age as well...hopefully not in the know-it-all old fart sense but as one that has a lot less time left in the present body than someone your age...drugs are a definite waste of valuable time. All that being said, marijuana should not be illegal.
Devin, don't forget the Cosmic Joke of it all and your so-called enemies are guides to your awakening and they and everyone are your friends
Guys let us understand that people who are attracted to Hinduism because they find the Kama Sutra interesting or idiolize marijuana smoking sadhus are of little or no use They do not increase the quality of thought in a religion but take it down to lower levels Let it be clear that we Hindus are not playing the numbers game like christianity and islam . Christianity and Islam have both suffered because they converted all and sundry to increase their numbers . The result is the seepage of bizarre practices and regressive thought into them. Quality is everyone's responsibility and we should only try and encourage only those people who represent/possess progressive qualities to look into Hinduism People who have already adopted the religion of drugs and worship Kurt cobain do not require another religion and will only take the religion they have adopted down the drain along with them Since when did Neem Karoli Baba become one of the greatest mystic's of Hinduism ?
Regardless, Half-a-Hippie...there is no reason to be rude... ...perhaps people can learn...they may go in with those motives...but spending time on the spiritul path changes people...you at least have to give them a chance first (esp. if even thoguh the have the wrong impressions, they are sincere in their serch)...
Well HH - In my book, 'Hinduism' is not really that superior to other religions. In fact, one of the attractive elements in it is the pluralism in spiritual matters that it represents. Many paths to God are accepted. At least at the higher end of the spectrum. At the lower end, the superstitious 'popular' Hinduism is no better than either Christianity or Islam. In fact, Christian and Islamic (sufi) mystics may well be on a higher plane than many ordinary Hindus. And in the case of Hundu fundamentalists, they really do represent the regressive thought' you mention. If we say only a certain category of person should look into Hinduism, where does that leave the ignorant masses of India? And what hope is there that those who are doing all this negative stuff will see the error of their ways? And many Hindu teachers are really not very progressive at all. The very worst basis there is for accepting a particular spiritual path is putting down other paths. That is not really spirituality but some form of 'cultural superiority'. Which really doesn't exist. To go back to Devin's question about drugs - I don't think you'll find any of the world's major religions which either encourage or allow drug use.
