Starting with some older ones when they were longer: I've cut them much shorter since then. Sometimes I miss the length, but I don't miss the drying time. It also allowed me to cut most of my congos down to just fatter singles. I was on the verge of cutting them off, but I'm back in the fray now. I don't do anything to them other than wash and dry them and I'm trying to promote that way of thinking on my lazy dreads blog.
much shorter now, but growing back. The grow much faster than they used to. I cut huge lumps every summer but they're back twice fold by spring.
They're about 5 1/2 years. They'll be long again soon enough, but I prefer to keep them just about long enough to tie back. At their longest point I probably had them half way down my back, but I cut them before I go away in the summer because I can't stand washing them with poor water pressure.
Very nice. I'm coming up on my first trim and I'm a little sad. It will mean I loose my true wispy ends. But I have neck issues, and I think I've reached a happy length. We'll see. It's encouraging to see life after trimming.
Dude wicked! love the way they look and fit you well brotha. Likin the way they look on the pic of you on the bridge.
It's sad to see them cut off, but it feels sooo good to lighten the load. After I trimmed before summer it felt like I'd taken off a heavy hat and my head was so much lighter. I mainly cut them to keep drying time down though. When I halve the length the seem to dry in almost half the time while not being super heavy when wet.
Mine? http://lazydreads.blogspot.co.uk/ - spamming dreadlock twitter ignorance near you! I could have a full time job just linking it to people talking about dreadlocks on twitter who don't have the faintest idea.
If I got £1 for every orange fake-tanned twitter fiend I (attempted to) set right on how dreadlocks are only as 'gross' as any other hair or only as 'gross' as the person who has them.... I added some extra to my blogs FAQ about bugs and lice. Some people keep circulating a "fact" that's along the lines of 'Herp derp they found 19 species of lice in Bob Marley's dreadlocks when he died'. This is then aimed towards people with dreadlocks and circulated. I mean seriously, if dreadlocks had bugs living in them, well no one would have them/keep them. Dreadlocks are a choice, and a choice no one would make if meant sharing your head with lice and bugs. ....Also Marley was bald when he died from his cancer treatment. I hate arguing this one because it somehow bolsters the stereotype that everyone with dreadlocks likes reggae... which I really really don't.
i thought i was the only one on a twitter campaign <3 i spend too much time replying to knobheads! its just the usual shit, dreads are dirty and gross, and thats what gets me, cause theyre the ones that retweeted a bazillion times! kfjvdnzv zksdfx!!!!
Do they even sit and think about it for 2 seconds? No one would have them if they were really that gross. They're cool to have, but not cool enough to keep for so many years if they're dirty. I try to wash them every other day, if I leave them longer than 3 nights I start to itch, then I'm still showering everything other than my hair every day. I'd say I'm atleast as clean as any other person if not more-so because I'm more concious that I have a stereotype to break.
