I imagine 'modern' life and enironment has not helped a great deal.. but i think the increased life expectancy thereby a greater lengh of time for our body to work against us.. imho has created a bigger cancer mortality..

Matthew has a very good point. As well only in recent years have we been able to detect and identify cancer...So people who had died of cancer in the years before our exapnidng knowledge on the disease had other "causes" of death.

But I think that modern lifestyle and enviorment have probbablt contributed somewhat.

from what i understand 2 out of 3 people will get some form of cancer.

our changing diets and lifestyle probably do have something to do with it. more chemicals, less exercise. diets high in animal protien have also been linked to cancer.

Previously people would die of an infectous desease before they were old enough to get cancer.

Very good question,Carsick. I think alot of things could add to it. Food additives, plastics, pollution, water supply,etc...

The fact that wild animals almost never die of cancer suggests to me that it's a more recent, industrial phenomenom, although I agree our longer lifespans may very well be a big part of it too. But I mean, we've invented thousands of chemicals in the last hundred years or so, and released them into the environment in which we live: air, water, shit, they're in our food as dyes, preservatives, and flavorings. There's particulates from fossil fuel burning. Plus all the nuclear testing and disasters. Don't tell me that blowing a-bombs up in the atmosphere is good for our breathing air. That radioactivity, seems like it would drift about and get breathed in.

Comon' ya'll are listening to all to much T.V., if you listen to that krap youll probably get cancer, almost anything can give you cancer these days, whether its milk or french frys that have cancerous causing chemicals because of the oil they cook

I believe that 2 out of 3 people are dying of cancer because of smokers, come on now think about how many people smoke, and why do you think there raising the tax prices of cigarettes across the U.S. because people don't want to pay other peoples medical bills across the U.S. through the complications of smoking.

Fluoride is a biproduct of nuclear power.
    Just for your consideration.

Fluoridation of water is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.

Well, at least someone's seen Dr. Strangelove.
But I digress, it is true that fluoride is obtained as a biproduct of producing nuclear power.

Truly man. I've heard it is connected to adolecent (especially male) violence because it somehow causes desensitization of people (which of course will have lots of other negetive consequences).

I also read that it concentrates in the pineal gland in the brain, which is also known as the "god gland" because it is somehow connected to spiritual feelings and transcendental experiences. I can't see how that can be a good thing, having a poison gathering in the part of our brain that connects us to the deepest feelings/experiences that we can have. Maybe it's why we're all so fucked up and out of touch...

And fluoride only helps your teeth while they're still under your gums, before they've sprouted. And it only kills bacteria because it is toxic to life. All life.

Is all this bullshit then ?

As noted in Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General, community water fluoridation continues to be the most cost-effective, equitable and safe means to provide protection from tooth decay in a community. Scientific studies have found that people living in communities with fluoridated water have fewer cavities than those living where the water is not fluoridated. For more than 50 years, small amounts of fluoride have been added to drinking water supplies in the United States where naturally-occurring fluoride levels are too low to protect teeth from decay. Over 8,000 communities are currently adjusting the fluoride in their community’s water to a level that can protect the oral health of their citizens.

    Can fluoridated water cause cancer?

The possible relationship between fluoridated water and cancer has been debated at length. The debate resurfaced in 1990 when a study by the National Toxicology Program, part of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, showed an increased number of osteosarcomas (bone tumors) in male rats given water high in fluoride for 2 years (3). However, other studies in humans and in animals have not shown an association between fluoridated water and cancer (4).

In a February 1991 Public Health Service (PHS) report, the agency said it found no evidence of an association between fluoride and cancer in humans. The report, based on a review of more than 50 human epidemiological (population) studies produced over the past 40 years, concluded that optimal fluoridation of drinking water “does not pose a detectable cancer risk to humans” as evidenced by extensive human epidemiological data reported to date (4).

This might be true.. or it could be the ravings of a mad man within a very good film..
