Yeah but what you don't know is that there are a ton of farmhands and people with know-how already working on our farm. So, It can and does function totally fine without us. It ran fine before we got the place. Yet, it's our place and you can go there and do whatever you want to and garden there as much as you want too.
Now I do have to agree with you that it's just not as rewarding to work real hard for seven days straight from dusk till black, hand digging rows and planting fresh corn rows in a 20 foot by 20 foot plot, and then when you're all done you look over to your right and see we already have 20 square miles of full grown corn that is 3 weeks from harvesting. I hear you bro. It just ain't the same.
I'm gonna take a rain-check on this farm business for today and think about it 2moro.At least we're getting somewhere.
Now you're getting it. Do whatever part that you wish to on the farm. I'm just explaining that it is organic and permaculture and clear up a few misconceptions. A big place with worker and machanics and other people. Runs it's self. A place for you to go and play. If you want I could create a place where we have to go and find our own flint sources and make our own stone tools. I would go out to that place.
Kenny it's great to have a fully-functioning farm where you don't have to do anything - but I want to find out and research how this shit is done for real, from the basics up.My Grandparents were farmers -for real - but I am also a city boy like you...One day I might want to put this stuff into practice in the real World...Or at least learn something along the way...I think it could be more fun to start small and work up to getting big...I'm not suggesting that we return to the Stone Age by any means...But there are ways and there are ways...
I'll take a triple too! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: What's wrong with going back to the Stoned Age....errr....'67 wasn't it? Cattle are high maintainence. Let's free range bison.
Fairlight, Well then that's easy enough to do. I'll tell you ya have some pretty good people right here. Get to know Ranger. He knows a lot. Hook in up with Shameless_Heifer. She actually subsistence farms for like the past 20 years now. You have some real pros here to get to be good buddies with. Just talk it up with the others and roll it all up into starting a new Hippie Farm thread. That's all tat it takes. That is unless you can't get them to go out in our back garden here. No body ever goes out there. I go and water every three days.
Morning Ranger, Get with Fairlight on farming and gardening. You guys could get a coallition going and get Cakes into it. She's said Nebraska is too cold and Not her. Be a group. Talk IT. start a thread. Make it happen. You guys could be and educational for other too. Fairlight you know Ranger. Ranger you know Fairlight. A new place, or the backyard. The backyard is in full fruit right now though. But whatever.
How serious are you about getting your mom's ole pard a call from Stevie Nicks? Stranger things have happened.
It's baking hot today (although probably nothing like it's been in the States) in the real world, I've made 7lbs. of rhubarb and ginger jam and 4lbs of blackcurrent jam. And packed a load of fragile antique things in bubblewrap. And done mother in laws washing and hung it on the clothesline. Gonna chill out a bit now!
"Gonna chill out a bit now!" Stillcrazy, Here's a little something for you to chill out with. I hope that you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkSp8wc8lKw"]Pachelbel's Canon in D (Very full orchestra) - YouTube
good afternoon all. i am quite disappointed in this weather, i work all week in the sweltering hot sun then it comes time to go to the beach and it is below 80 and raining. its just not right. anyway had fun at the concert last night great seeing everyone that was there.
I should maybe have mentioned it when we first started talking about the farm but in Scotland we as a family were almost self sufficient. I have a wealth of knowledge about companion planting and a hugh ammount of practice weeding on hands and knees for hours at a time between the seedlings. More importantly I suppose recognising at that tiny stage in their development the difference between a baby weed and a baby plant. No chemicals allowed was our motto.
