Hi, my name is colin. my brother and i will be visiting amsterdam in august 05. i'm gonna be honest here, we both are canadian potheads with some extra cash and want to come to amsterdam to try all of the mraijuana and hash we can. I would like to see the van gogh museum and definately do some sight seeing around town, but mostly coffeeshops and smokers hangouts.

    Now that you know a little bit about my situation here is my question;

Do you know of any one who would be willing to give us our own personal one day/night tour of a pothead in amsterdam? Would prefer a female but not fussy.

    TOUR WOULD INCLUDE:

-we would meet she/he somewhere in central amsterdam where we would proceed to tour and get high all day long. I would prefer it if the person knew where to get quality smoke, and good lounging opportunities. I will be picking up the cheque for smoking all day.
-after we are good and stoned and have seen central amsterdam through a potheads eyes I would like to go to an offbeat pub. A nice one, not too busy where we could have a smoke, a pint and a laugh.

I am willing to pay the right person, negotiable.

If you are willing to waste a day please let me know.

My brother and I are 21 and 28 respectively, we are avid smokers, and pretty much your run of the mill canadians so to speak.

Please let me know if you or someone you know would be intersted.

Go to a smartshop and buy some Hawaiian shrooms or LSA seeds or some Peyote. Take it and meet some people in Ruigoord, Vondelpark or Amsterdamse Bos.

what, you mean to tell me that you're coming all that way and not even planning on visiting a hooker??

fuck all the history and shit, it's all about the pot!! why else would you fly half way across the world.

TIP: save your money and get stoned at home.

Don't want to brag, but I have the slight feeling that when it comes to pot, you get moer quality ànd quantity for your money in the Netherlands than in Canada.. but that might just be prejudice ;)

And I know you don't like the tourists who are here for the hookers & pot, but if that's someones idea of a great vacation, why not? I can't begin to imagine why so many youth go to one of the costa's in the summertime only to get drunk and laid.. but hell, as long as they are having fun, what's wrong with it?

you're right, each to their own i guess. I just can't help but get a little frustrated by the way that Amsterdam has been cheapened by all these tourists who aren't even remotely interested in the city and in it's rich history and culture.

I nearly vomit every time I walk down Damrak or Niewendijk. Amsterdam doesn't need any more shops selling tie dyed tshirts with pictures of bob marley smoking a joint on the front.

lol.. it's the Che shirts that are my pet peeve.. the poor fellow never wanted personal idolisation and see where he ended up.

But don't forget that in a way the whole pot-culture IS culture as well.. it's pretty amazing what freedom there is here when it comes to marihuana. It may seem very shallow and decadent, but in a way it's social bonding as well. Plus I think there aren't too many tourist that come here and do nothing but smoke pot and visit hookers. Most of the people seem to visit at least a few of the famous musea as well.

Well, here in Seattle, it's the Jimi Hendrix shirts. You're gonna get that tourist crap no matter where you go, whether it be Amsterdam, Seattle, LA, London, you can't escape it.

very true.. and at least the streets here don't have a starbucks on every corner.. I was really shocked about that in London.. dunno why, but I found it upsetting.. hehe.

It certainly adds novelty value but pot is pretty open almost everywhere. You might not be able to buy it in shops like you can in Amsterdam, but it's just as available in most places i've been. Where i live it's legal to keep dope plants for your personal use in the privacy of your own home.

There's also the fact that the whole pot thing in amsterdam is almost completely dominated by tourists. Most Dutch people I know wouldn't be seen dead in a coffeeshop. I also found Dutch people to be less interested in pot genarally than americans, british or australians for example. This confirmed my belief in legalization (even though it's not strictly legal in Holland).

don't even get me started on london

but seriously, I'll take Starbucks over Coffee Company any day and twice on sundays.

It's very insteresting that starbucks is yet to open a retail outlet in holland, yet they have their European headquarters and processing plant in Amsterdam.

*sticks head out of the window and looks around*

Amsterdam isn't THAT small.. only the touristy centre is, but I don't see the streets filled with stuff like that over here.. and trust me, this is still Amsterdam ;)

I really wonder what strange breed of Dutch people you know.. hehe.. the Dutchies I know (and since I live here, that's a lot) are at most indifferent about the whole coffeeshop thing because they don't really smoke. *thinks*.. no.. it's safe to say I don't know anyone who 'wouldn't be caught dead' in a coffeeshop and that includes even old fashioned people like my parents! I knew this awesome coffeeshop in another town where they sell the best homemade soup so I took my mom there.. she loved the place.. hehe.. 'even though' it's a coffeeshop. You seem to have managed to surround yourself with narrowminded, conservative people.. too bad.

damn, jason.. what kind of weird dutch people you hang out with?? every time I go to a coffee shop and I don't even smoke, so it's with friends or just for the food (same place velvet was talking about).. But the place is always packed with people.. and yes, those people are dutch..

it's kinda straight forward.. if you go into a coffeeshop in a touristy area, the chances are it's mostly filled with tourists. If you go to a coffeeshop in a non-touristy area, to shop will be mostly filled with Dutch people.

And you will see all kinds of people there.. I don't think there is something like a 'typical Dutch coffeeshop visitor' or sth like that. I used to see a group of rastafarians sit at one table, some morrocan guys at another, some students at the next, a lonely poet at the bar scribbling down stuff while smoking, some mid-thirdies ladies having tea.. ofcourse each bar has it's own vibe and will attrack a different or more specific crowd, but in general you can find people of all walks of life in a coffeeshop.

Are you talking about that coffeeshop in Nijmegen? I thought that was a great place. It was a coffeeshop where you're allowed to buy and smoke, but it seemed that the emphasis wasn't on weed. You went into a smaller room where the games are kept to purchase your green, so it wasn't in your face as you walk in. And as for people smoking it, I saw a few joints lit, but the majority of the people were into their food, beverages, games, etc. Definitely more of a place to hang out than a tourist trap. I liked it.

sounds far-fetched, the ones i've met are pretty fussy.
that sounds quite likely, i've met some of those too.

i'd be happy to take these fellas on a tour of amsterdam, gratis, but i'm a guy and i don't smoke weed so i don't think i'm the candidate.

does it seem to you that because amsterdam is famous for this one little quirk (that you can smoke weed here), people from elsewhere assume the dutch smoke a lot of weed? are tourists surprised when they get here and discover that dutch stoners are more rare than a country-western tuba?

amsterdam def needs new PR in the rest of the world, and i don't think the Iambtenaar campaign is cutting it.

    love

LOL... the Iambtenaar campaign is sooo.. ehm.. well.. I'm even lost for words on that one.. hehehe..

And yeah.. when I read the first post here I assumed that I disqualified as well, because although I smoke pretty regularly lately, I don't feel that smoking the whole day whilst having to walk through the city guiding two strangers (whom I afraid of having not too much experience on being totally wasted on very strong weed) is the best idea in the world. The locals I know that smoke like to smoke more in an easy going setting, preferably their home.. just chill with friends and lie down when they get 'freaky'. So, I dunno..

    Hi again.

I must tell you I didn't think this would be so hard.

First off I do not mean to stereotype anyone. I do not expect that all of Amsterdam or all Dutch culture uses mary jane just because they can. Obviously I would have to be pretty naive to assume that!

Secondly, I have numerous friends who have been and have wandered around for a week only to find out when they got back that they missed the best shops! I have over 10 years experience smoking herb. Quality, strong, delicious marijuana. I realize your strains are strong but we have been making some pretty good progress in canada! wink wink. I have grown my own from dutch seeds before under awesome conditions ie thai lights, nl#5, big bud, etc.

Thirdly, if that is a word, I wanted a woman liason for a few reasons, none of which are perverted or weird or whatever! I figured if a guy were to show us around it would be a "contest," a who could smoke more testosterone show and we're really not in to that. I just want someone whos on the "down-low" to show us the ropes for a day. I'm there for a week and am only looking for a one day dope tour, I have six more days to explore the beauty and culture rich nation that is the Netherlands. Shit, maybe the lucky person can also show us some history the next day, or while we were walking around? We are not perv's or anything. Repeat, not perverts!!! Nice guys. Seriously.

I guess I can understand how my intentions have been misconstrued. I am sorry for any confusion or false stereotyping that may have occurred in my first post.

    Still seaching though.......................................
