Hi, I wound up getting directed here on a grow question, and decided to post a question myself (I checked, didn't see any real previous questions on the topic, please don't hurt me :) ). Then I decided to mosey around a bit...realized that this was more than a simple one-track site, and got more interested. Very nice. Wound up jumping into a few threads, to the point where I figured I should probably introduce myself, lol.

So, um, hi. I'm 40, married, 4 kids, a dog, a cat, a miniature cow, 2 pigs (more soon, she's pregnant, yay!) 3 goats, 5 ducks, 9 chickens, and we're planning on starting up some pretty cool stuff with fish & veggies. I am very interested in self-sufficiency (year round homegrown food ftw), and I like long walks on the beach, and hot, wet...oh. Wrong forums, nvm.

It's been a while since I got involved in a forum site, this one may just hold me, you guys are cool :daisy:

:D Mini cows are awesome, they're more efficient (eat 1/3 what a normal cow does, but give 1/2 the milk/meat) so they aren't AS bad for the environment, and they're cute as hell. Ours is still young, but we'll be able to breed her soon, which will give us a baby to sell, and daily milk for a long time (she's a jersey, we got her for milking). Her mom gives 3 gallons a day.

She's a sweetheart, and so are the pigs (which are kune-kunes, a breed that is only slowly coming back after nearly dying out). We lucked out with getting our animals, they're the best kinds possible. Even our goats are Jacobs' Pride, beautiful creatures, and bigger than most goats.

I love my animals. I'll stop talking about them now, lol.

Please don't ... some of us like hearing about them :mickey:

(My grandfather had a herd of pedigree Jerseys ... but they were the full size version)

    :) Thank you, BeachBall.

Our pigs are 'mini' too, but they aren't that mini. They're very hairy, our girl is ginger and our boy is cream. so we can't wait til he's big enough to get babies on her (she's pregnant now by a different pig). I'm very eager for the next few months, got a lot happening.

We're also planning on starting an aquaponics setup (recirculating fish & grow-bed system, I discussed in a different thread, amazing stuff), and that was actually the question I had posted about first, lol before I got into the political areas. But my thread is awaiting approval by a moderator before it shows up...does anyone know how long that takes? Or is it my classification as a 'guest' that is holding it up? I don't mind waiting, I just would like a general feeling for the time involved.
