okay, so i've been trying to lose 10-15 lbs for awhile now. over a year, really. not for anyone else's idea of beauty, just my own idea of how i feel i should look. i was 135 lbs, then went vegan and lost 5 lbs. then ate too many pbjs and gained back 4 lbs. now i'm at about 132-130 depending on the day. i want to be 120. i'm vegan and i've cut most breadstuffs out of my diet and eat only fruits, veggies, beans, and oatmeal at breakfast. i drink a minimal amount of juice and a moderate amount of fake milk (rice milk, etc) i have sugar with my morning coffee and my oatmeal, but no where else. i eat no processed food or sweets. where the HELL am i going wrong? why am i still slowly gaining weight? this irks me to no end, i eat healthy but i'm getting a belly....i didnt have one before, my weight was more in my lower body (it still is, but minisculy less). any advice?
DO NOT diet. You'll be slowing your metabolism. Do as the fitz-man says and exercise... weight training wouldn't hurt- even for a girl. Keep in mind that more muscle mass increases your metabolism- and you don't have to get "jacked" to enjoy benefits. Join a gym and work with light dumbbells. Low-impact aerobics- like walking, biking, or swimming will help.
well i cant join a gym....living in a small town and not having a car, it simply isnt possible. i try to do crunches, squats and these things i recently learned about called kickbacks a little everyday, and walk our dogs about a mile on most days. i dont really diet, persay, since i still eat a lot and never starve myself. i just dont eat any junk food at all. but i'll definately try to do more exercise, thank you for the advice.
i made this post in the Mens forum a few days ago - bodyweight exercises - pushups, squats, lunges, pull ups. they all have basic movements which can be progressed into advanced movements. buy a jumprope - its great...really! you can build a sandbag which you can add weight or take weight off for an exercise. you can do a lot with a sandbag. burpees - these are great, and much better than running in place. you squat down, kick your feet back out, so your in a pushup position. go down into a pushup, come back up and bring your feet back in and jump up (jump as high as you can) and then repeat. planks - these are static holds. basic plank is on your elbows and forearms with your feet extended out. hold for 30 seconds - you'll feel it throughout your body. then you can do side planks and once you get proficient at those basic movements, you can progress to harder ones. making these movements into circuits (do 1 exercise right after each other) - pick 3-4 exercises, do that exercise for 10 reps and then move to the next exercise without a break. once you finish the last exercise, you take a break. then you repeat the circuit. you can do interval training. go all out on an exercise for a specified time, take a break, then do the interval all over again.
how? does it require special equipment and stuff? plus idk how to do it. but i've heard lots of good things about it so i'd like to try it, any workout i can do inside is nice.
haha, that would probably be the quickest and most fun way, but i dont like long-term commitments, i.e. addictions. plus i kinda like not having meth mouth.
nope no equiptment required. all you need is a floor and your body lol. just get some pilates dvds (i reccoment windsor pilates) off ebay or something and give it a go. i like it because it increases flexibility and really tones the body. good luck
You're no longer a spring chicken. Metabolism slows down in teen years. At least down from being a child. Weight gain is not uncommon. Depends on diet, activity level, and genetics. That last one is very hard to overcome. Look at your relatives. That is your future if you don't work hard enough to battle against it. You're also still growing. Bones are getting larger and more dense. Muscle will add weight just like fat will add weight. Your "ideal" weight may be impossible without putting your health at risk. x
in the OLD day you were considered to be "rich" if you were over weight or plump. I think tha'ts awesome!
looking at your pics...and your age...i'd say you shouldn't be worrying about losing much weight, if any at all... eat healthy, get exercising and you'll be fine
those pics are actually me 5 lbs ago....but i think the only part of me that lost weight was my bust, unfortunately.
Oh my f^cking god, it's all about exercise, I've known people who's diet is 50% McDs and they're not fat because THEY WALK IT OFF!!! Jesus Christ! Shut teh f^ck up and WALK!!!!
umm....i do walk....thanks. maybe my metabolism is a little slower than theirs? i also know people who live on pizza and ice cream and are size zero, but im just not one of them. hell, my mom and i have the EXACT same body type, same waist to hip ratio and everything, and she bikes 200+ miles a week. im not saying that i cant lose weight because of my genetics, but my diet is extremely healthy and i exercise so i'm just frustrated that im not as slender as those lucky people that can live on junk food. you dont have to be such a fucking asshole about it, maxiumusxxx.
you can add LBM which will raise your metabolism. you can also perfrom interval training at a high intensity. studies have shown that high intensity interval training raises your metabolism for the day, so even when your not exercising your burning up fuel. when you walk or do steady state cardio, you just burn the fat for the duration of the time you exercise - thats great and all. but to really get the fuel burning, you need to up your intensity level.
