Mass extinction in terms of the number of species. But more carbon, nitrogen, water in the atmosphere and warmer temperatures means the vegetation gets replenish faster, which turns into fuel for forest fires later during drought periods

If you and Irmi would be a tiny minority the co2 from your car would be no problem. All of the most polluting cars together though makes a significant impact.
Human actions are already a bigger cause of the increase in co2 in the air than volcanos.
So you asked an important question indeed, one that shows how much impact we humans as a whole do. The US alone already emits more carbon dioxide anually than all volcanoes combined. So the least a person who gives a shit can do is get those filters or a more responsible car. Or, if you really need that car, compensate in another way.
If we all compensate and make responsible choices (which we should make for multiple reasons anyway, not only the heating of the planet) we can have at it all. But how we have accustomed to live in the last lets say 70 years cannot be continued carelessly.

Some of us don't live in areas where mass public transport works. Some of us can't get to our property on public transport, or down the dirt road to the fields where we work.

Not sure what being a nr. 1 target for eco warrior vigilantes means, but i would keep it constructive. Otherwise your vigilante actions might have a counterproductive result.
And the choice for the car argument is spot on. But the choice for living out where you need a car argument is an assumption from your part. Then again, needing a car doesn't mean going for the biggest diesel truck is neccessary either. That choice is often made for trivial purposes. There seem to be more of those owners in love with the idea of needing such a car, then that there are owners who actually need it.

Taking public transport is one way to clear your mind.

But even still if you have a car it might mean that you park it somewhere and walk

That's indeed a disadvantage. Same with the use of disposable plastic. It's just too convenient. Which is why we use it more often then we really need.
I ride trains because I don't have a car. I don't prefer it to driving (although both have its own advantages).

 

They are not fully electric. They are hybrid. Use fuel when not in zero emissions mode.

And of course, when charged use electricty produced still mostly by coal in the end

And of course there is the 30,000 batteries in each vehicle that will need to be replaced and disposed of every couple of years

And of course there is the worlds ever increasing population, you are still just offsetting by a couple decades the levels thrse systems would have otherwise consumed
