Just thought I would post a few things about festivals around this part of the country that are great to go to:

Asheville Musical Jamboree, Deerfields (Horseshoe) NC
Used to be the Smile Festival
Try amjam.com and check it out, it's the first weekend in June

Speaking of Deerfields, it is a great place -- an old apple orchard with two lakes
Ashefest will be held there in August, I think

To name a few others you can look up, there's:

    Shakori
    Merlefest
    LEAF

May and October are great months for music and dance festivals around here.

And, although they are not hippies, contra dancing is fun, and you can check out the dances by searching "contra dancing in the mid south" and click on the city. The dance at Warren Wilson College on Thursdays is a great one. There is one on Augusta Street in Greenville at the YWCA two Wednesdays a month.

To all you newcomers, Greenville may seem like it's growing, but we are still a very repressive small town (trying to fit in big town britches). Do not be dismayed, however; they haven't run me off in all these years, and it is beautiful country (some of the prettiest in the world).

And, if you smile, love everyone, and love the day, then everything will be fine.
