So i live about 1/4mile from a graveyard that is the size of a football field. Its a clean, well maintained graveyard...my great grandmother is buried their as well. Anyways i was talking to my friend yesterday and he asked if i had gone to the graveyard at night yet? I said no.. He says i should...i asked him have you ever gone to a graveyard at night? He said no...his answer was one that made me think he wont ever visit a graveyard at night...ever. I think that has something to do with his older sister who was killed by a drunk driver when he was younger... So im thinking about going to the graveyard everynight for lets say a week at midnight and just sit at the bench for 15 minutes or so to see if anything happens. Has anyone ever done something like this? The house i grew up in is very very old....just been remodeled. One time in broad daylight i was sitting in the kitchen, i was home alone, and i swear to god someone was walking in my old room up stairs. It couldn't have been more olbvious that someone or something was upstairs walking around. All three dogs were downstairs or outside...and i was the only person in the house...that experience made me believe in 'ghosts, spirits' or whatever you want to call it... but has anyone ever seen or felt something going to a graveyard in the dark of night....? If i did this, and im pretty sure i will, i wont be taking the dog with me....or maybe i should take the dog? hmmm
i go to the cemetery near me quite often, but not at night. i'm too nervous that i'll get in trouble for trespassing.
Yea ive gone many times in the day...thats no problem. I wouldn't be worried about trespassing. Its a good neighborhood and the graveyard is at the end of the property on the corner. Would be very easy to jump the fence...if it was locked. Around here chances are it might not be locked...doubt it though.
Sounds like an interesting idea. I have a small family one from the 1800s not 3 minutes down the street from me, and I used to think it was a little creepy as a kid. It's rather relaxing now. All the memorials have been sort of pieced into a bigger one due to wear, but some of them are still legible. The cemetery further down the street by 10 15 minutes is still an active one, but it also has some really old plots. Sometimes I swear I see figures in there at night time, but that could be just the light reflecting off the newer tombstones. I used to go there at night sometimes, but the increased police presence in this small town makes it undesirable (they're fiends for arrests). Perhaps record your findings and post anything interesting that goes down?
I feel like the chances of me seeing or experiencing anything id have to go multiple times. I don't think id go one night and get freaked out and run home like a dog with its tail between its legs...i think i would have to go multiple times for something to happen. The special hour might be 1:23 am...who knows...
Hello, don't forget the shovel when you go. Oh, and kick up a row on your way to the cemetery. The neighbours will love you for that . Regards Gyro
kick up a row? and why wouldn't you be worried about trespassing, broony? if you have to jump a locked fence, then you are certainly trespassing. you just think you would not get caught?
they are generally municipally run and subject to bylaws regarding visiting hours Id watch out for the trespass charge too
I have to check to see if the gate will be locked first. Their is one house across from the graveyard, and one house on the left, thats it. The other two sides of the property is a giant field that is empty and a hill in the back. The graveyard is literally almost by itself. At this paticular one im not worried about trespassing. Its almost all by itself, and the two houses that are the closest are run down and kinda ghetto...not worried. I need to pick a clear night so i wouldnt need a flashlight. Then just sit their in the middle of it in complete silence.
Just be very respectful. Regardless if you believe in spirits or not a graveyard is a very peaceful place and not one you want to bring bad vibes too.
Hello, http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/kick+up+a+row The neighbours should know that broony is on the way. Regards Gyro
Oh i know, i very much have that in mind. Like i said in first post my great grandmother is buried there, and she raised me tell i went into public school. I didn't go to preschool and never daycare. She took care of me. I wouldn't do anything to disturb the dead, let alone the place where she rests. Maybe she will come and give me some insight. It might be cool if a old sailor or something sat down next to me and told me a story from the 1890s or something. :mickey:
i checked mine when i was out today....pretty sure it has graves from the war of 1812... ...a huge gate with no fence...what good is a gate unless there is also a fence...all we have is a 2 foot cow barrier.. ..the one cop that i know lives on the island is the house right beside the cemetary so i wont be going at night....dont need to be on that dudes radar
Ours is locked up at dark every night. The family that owns it lives in a house at the back of the cemetery, so I'm pretty sure if I tried getting in, I'd end up going to jail.
i've been in "my" cemetery after dark before. i went in when it was light and it just got a little too late. i was locked in one time, but could get out of the other locked exit, because the bars are bent so i could squeeze my bicycle out. and another time a security type vehicle drove over towards me (flashing yellow lights) and i just kept pedaling towards the exit and left.
In Savannah Georgia me and some friends used to go to the cemeteries and just walk around. A lot of the Victorian era tombstones were really cool to scope out. I've also been to some local cemeteries around here at night and walked on some peoples graves to justify the chills they got 50 years prior.
i feel like i've been to a cemetery at night before, but i can't specifically remember it so maybe not. definitely haven't gone nightly though. i've also seen the giant gate with no fence graveyards. most of them around here aren't fenced in, or at most have a fence across the front but nothing along the sides. i actually can only think of one that i've dealt with that was completely fenced in. it's generally just assumed that people know to stay out of them after hours. if anything, the good neighborhood is why you should be worried. police will actually be in the area because they aren't putting themselves at risk by being there, and because they care about protecting the residents more than ghetto people. and if they do see someone trespassing there, it will be the worst crime they see all day so they'll be all excited about a chance at an arrest.
graveyards are not there for the amusement of people seeking a "thrill" have a little respect for the families of those people...its not a place for night prowlers and dogs
