"The Irresistable Force that drives the Universe from the simplicity of Nothing to the complexity of Life." Still- no intelligence required.
"I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now? Reality leaves a lot to the imagination." -John Lennon
hmm.. I think that everyvody has to (or should-would be better to say) believe in something or someone.. and i don't know why we're trying to definate the God, cause it's imposible.. (to me)..
This is just a fancy way of saying "Creator". But Creator is a relational attribute - it deals with "God" 's relation to other beings - namely, His creations. A "definition" is defined as an expression or description of fundamental character. It explains, fundamentally, what a thing is. This provided attempt does not accomplish that. Secondary and relational attributes inform us as to what a "God" does, can do, likes to do, has done, or how it effects other beings. But a definition has not been provided explaining what God **is** that "God" can do things, likes to do things, has done things, and has the capacity to effect or be measured to other beings. Its basically the same here. This is a relational attribute - you are comparing God in light of other things - that "God", whatever it is, is superior to those things. Also, you'd need to better explain what you mean by "greatest". In what sense is "God" the greatest conceivable being? Is it the greatest in regards to loving people - or greatest in regards to hating people? If by greatest you mean greatest in all things, then you will lead yourself into contradictions - e.g. a being who is greatest in regards to loving people and hating people both simultaneously at the same time. Maybe Definition #2 will be better?
god in the montheistic sense is something greater then ourselves that loves us and wishes us well. to attempt further and closer deffinician in any sense is self defeating and only cuts us off further from our own sense of connectedness with it i think john lennon, sedartha gutama and especial lao tsu had 'the right idea' which is after all no more then saying the sense of it i am myself most comfortable with most confident of the likelyhood of as none of us are infallable and not even one or more gods have to be =^^= .../\...
God is the mental gymnastics we play to keep ourselves from the realization that our live are essentially meaningless when compared to the length and breadth of the universe (and time) and essentially everything in the context of our relationships with each other.
Jlazarus, The definition dose NOT cover "creator". Creator implys intelligence and/or direction. Existence does niethier. JxGirl, "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yeild." Seeking such answers is the essences of humanity.
By "greatest" being, I mean, possessing all greater-making properties. ie. wisdom, moral decency, justness...existence itself. Not greatness in mere size, but greatness in the sense of better.. What is greater than the greatest possible being?...If there was no greatest possible being, a being greater must have to exist. God is omnipotent and omniscent, and if possessing all greater-making properties, he/she must have to possess existence itself, considering how a God that exists is better than one that does not..God exists in the understanding...when nothing greater can be thought..
J Lazarus, I may not know God, but I am pretty sure that hate is not one of his qualities. You sound like an atheist to me. Having been raised by atheists, I recognize the signs. I can accept your belief as being as equally true and valid as mine is, I believe in miracles, magic, prayer, and Spirit. Can you accept mine as being just as valid and true as yours?
