because of the accesibility of the tools to make electronic music, the standards of production are a lot higher. Its about as "easy" to make a quality tune as it is to learn to play an instrument. It takes skill, patience, and a lot of time in the studio. Unless you plan to devote 30+ hours a week to it, don't expect to get noticed anytime soon. You will just be overlooked like every other guy with FL studio and a soundcloud.

Definitely. It just overwhelms me when someone thinks they only need to buy devices or laptop to write music. If you've got no taste, don't listen to a proper music and are going to use nothing more than step sequencer, you will listen to your own music all alone because no one would care.

I think Nokia: The modern telecom giant hasn’t always been involved in such tech-heavy fields. The company got its start in Tampere, Finland, in 1865 as a pulp mill and paper manufacturer. When owner Fredrik Idestam opened a second plant in Nokia, Finland, in 1868, he decided the town’s name would suit his company, too.

Any kid with a computer can make beats.
How many kids can play bass and ukelele (and guitar and mando, et al.)

If you want to make it in music, play music and not ... (be nice mike, be nice)

If you want to make it in music, continue in the direction where you have uncommon skills, rather than joining the crowd.

i.e. go with your stringed instruments. play music that doesn't need electricity.

About the thread title, "Get famous with electronica"
Name 5 makers of electronica. Now name 20 guitar players.

Who gets famous, electronica-ists or string pluckers?
If you want fame, take a hint from history.

to be fair though there are already so many badass guitarists it's nearly impossible to get noticed whereas electronic music makes it easier to craft a more original or unique sound that may make it easier to distinguish yourself in the flock.

I'm out of that loop, but are there really "famous" electronica-ists?
Anyone known from coast to coast?
What is the geographic size of a very famous performer's notoriety in that genre?

Heck, no matter the style, if one wants to be a professional musician, one had better want it badly. One had better enjoy making that kind of music.

    Have you tried Myspace?

    Soundcity?

    Bandcamp?

    Spotify?

    etc..

Calvin Harris made it big by using myspace. A few years ago he worked in Marks & Spencers in Dumfries stacking shelves. He punted out a couple of catchy songs and people liked them, next thing he's on MTV's play list.

If your music is good people will catch on to it. making money out of it is a different matter, you have to become megafamous for that these days, but certainly it's not hard to get your music heard these days.

You could always start by posting some if it here....?

As a man with a double barrel name once said- Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for stars!

Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, Orbital, Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin, Afrika Bambaata, Tiesto.... Just throwing a few random names out there..... Any of these ring a bell?

Nope, as I said, its out of my loop.

Do Huddie Ledbetter, Maybelle Carter or Lee Hayes ring a bell with you? :)

Omactl is pretty much hitting this right on the nail. Electronica is the top genre in Europe for sure. Anyone with the right mind who lives in North America with a passion for this music should move there. With the creation of the drum machine, major rock groups despised it, but Europe embraced it; and here we are. Rock in the West, Electronic in the East. If you really want it to make it with electronica, go where the music goes.

I have played guitar and piano for 8 years and I'm pretty proficient at both but I just started electronic production and I love it. You can create your own "symphony" without the difficulty of meeting with other musicians. But It does take alot of time. Learning the software is more difficult than learning an instrument. But there are plenty of youtube videos out there for help. Hit it and stick with it. Its fun and expressive in the least. Good Luck

It is lots of fun and highly addicting. That's awesome that you have a strong musical foundation to work with. I come from a slightly musical background (played trumpet in band during grade school, dabbled in guitar and djing in high school) so I really have to work more on the music theory part. I'm taking piano lessons from this chick that is majoring in music education and I feel like a 6 year old lol.
It's the software that comes easy to me. Picked up reason in 2005 and learned very fast how to do most things in a DAW. Now I use Ableton and Komplete. My workflow is like 1000x more realistic in terms of creating an actual track from start to finish.
